I'm looking for a new pedestal type table base that folds up small, is on casters and has locking wheels (or at least some I can switch out for locking wheels). I'm hoping to find something I can make my own table tops for and toss into a duffel bag.
Wheels are key for me as I don't want to have to pick up a table and risk sending my multiplying bottles crashing to the floor. Any ideas?

A good hardware store has a selection of wheels, some will swivel and some will not and some will lock.
There are all different size at Ace for example. |

That's true Michael. I'd still rather trust a wheel over picking up a non wheeling table to move it

Yeah, me too. Just beware of those piece-together riser stages! (Level, my ***...)
Wish I could offer a suggestion on your quest.

Chris, when I am done with my routine I have my assistant come out with a cardboard box that fits over the top of the bottles and she walks off with the table with no spills.

Here is Nielsen Roll-On Table, comes with wheels and you can switch them to locking. The one I had used threaded wheel casters.
http://www.nnmagic.com/magicitems/stagemagicpage_mz.htm This is the Ultimate Table bass, the legs are hollow steel pipe, if you can drill an angle you can fit with wheels. This is very sold, I made mine shorter, by cutting off 6" off each pipe. http://www.stevensmagic.com/index.php?ma......d=111837 Don't know how these caster are inserted on this one. http://www.stevensmagic.com/index.php?ma......d=112043 Color version http://www.stevensmagic.com/index.php?ma......d=113064 Fairchild table http://www.fairchildmagic.com/fairchild_magic_007.htm These plans are good for a roll on table that can carry your bottles. http://www.magicinc.net/rolontableplans.aspx This table book has some nice plans for tables. http://www.magicinc.net/tablebook.aspx And book 2. http://www.magicinc.net/tablebookii.aspx The best way for the bottles is to use a Terry Elton Bottle tray here: http://www.themagicofterryelton.com/new_page_1.htm Fab Magic has one. http://www.fabmagic.com/mubohofab.html |

Check the Wellington Table out. I know it fold ups like the 1950's P&L table. It is made of a carbon materials so very durable.

I build folding stands with wheels. Make sure you specify locking wheels if you order from me.

I would also make a suggestion but I doubt it they are available. Pnuematic wheels allow more give for uneven surface than solid wheels. I don't know how small you can get them though. Probably to large to look good on a table base.

Doug Ries is a good guy and builder. I still can't believe he hauled all those tables to Vegas for the SAM.

I believe you will find none of those will work well in the long run. I believe the Tannen you referenced and the Fairchild is the same table. None of those tables come with a case to carry it in, most do not fold down into one piece, so you are always putting them together and taking them apart. I think you will find this suitcase table more compatible for the traveling magician. You will have a nice large surface to work on close-up or on stage. All props are protected and many tricks can be set in advance to cut down on the set-up time at your gig. http://www.stevensmagic.com/shop/pro-sui......mproved/ I have owned the Norm Nielsen, and it it is a vary large top and does not fold, so the case would be huge. I asked Norm Nielsen if he would sell me a case and he declined, so I sold the table. The metal folding table is not stable, will fall over very easily with the sleight nudge. The Fairchild legs do not fold, and thus is real pain and odd shape to deal with trying to carry it around. It is like huge metal thing that does not fit anywhere in the trunk of your car. |

Hady.87 - Okay, I just thought I would give my experience with these type of table, SINCE YOU ASKED. I never found them useful for stage or close-up, and awkward to carry around.
I actually found the breifcase that turns into a table better for close-up. Just put it on borrowed table and all set to go. http://www.makmagic.com/product-popup.asp?prodid=P0033 http://www.makmagic.com/product-popup.asp?prodid=P0516 |
