Paul Green just sent me a link to Hocus-Pocus, where they are listing "Hot and Cold" a total rip off of my Plumber's Sticks.
They list it at $125.00 ... you can buy the Original from www.stevensmagic FOR HALF THAT PRICE.

The ad on Hocus-Pocus says Hot and Cold is imported from Germany. That is probably the guy making it in the picture. Find out who he is and fly to Germany to confront him.
Wasn't there another version with a water ending, I believe I seen an ad someplace where water poured out at the end.

David Regal put out the water finale version. He's a pal of Pete's.

I would contact HP and offer to sell them the original. Worth a try.

This was being sold at the Blackpool magic convention, I had a look at it and thought the quality pretty poor. The taps on the ends are made of a very poor plastic, even the guy doing the demonstration could not get it to work smoothly.

I contacted Hocus-Pocus and Paul was out of town when the sample came in from Germany and his staff put it up on their web site. As soon as they called Paul he told them to PULL IT DOWN.
THANKS PAUL, I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION.

It would be in their interest not to infringe on someone with as high a profile as Pete.

Pete,
Did you at least find out who manufactures this ripp off ? I did a search on internet, but all german shop have the same advertising picture and text. The only one that differs is the one sold by www.boretti-shop.de since they are giving some history of the effect in their advertising.
Here's the link : http://www.boretti-shop.de/index.htm
Scroll down a bit and you'll see the picture. If I'm right you read a little german, aren't you Pete ?
If needed, feel free to ask me for a translation.
I hate poeple stepping on other people's feets to make money. It's yours and it should remain so.

Our Bill Palmer is our German expert, he can even write a book in it!
And Paul at HP is really one of the "good guys" in magic, high level of integrity.

Well, fans... I just got an email from the guy MAKING THEM in Germany... he say's, It is not my trick and he will CONTINUE.
I have replied telling him the facts and history, in that I made this up 20 years ago in my act and did it on TV in Japan in 1980, then 10 years ago put it on the market through Stevens Magic.
His price is around #125.00 -- mine just under $50.00.

In my personal opinion, Magicians who truly love and respect the art of performing magic should ALWAYS insist on buying original magic and not supporting knock-offs or rip-offs.
There are good and sound reasons for insisting on NOT buying knock-offs:
1. First and foremost.....knock-offs and rip-offs are nothing more than thievery....of intellectual property of the originator. Let's not support people who steal from our fellow magicians.
2. People who knowingly buy rip-offs and knock-offs actually discourage innovation in magic equipment manufacturing...this ultimately hurts not only the original inventor/manufacturer of the original effect, but also magicians who buy this stuff, since they are 'sealing their destiny' with their purchases of illegal or inferior goods.......
3. I truly believe that quality magic pieces are, in essence, "works of art".....and more often than not, are made with love and a great deal of time, effort and attention and passion....let's support those individuals in magic who innovate and turn out great stuff..........besides......what "art collector" would knowingly buy "a rip off"?.......
4. I think a lot of this also has to do with honor and respect.......let's honor and respect those inventors/manufacturers who create originals by buying from them.

Pete does your routine predates one by Terry Seabrooke ?

Seabrooke put Styrofoam replica sink stoppers on his Chinese Sticks. We collaborated on lots of things, and I made up a set of sticks with the Styrofoam stoppers, BUT THEN I ADDED THE FAUCET TAPS. Then, when I tried to use real sink stoppers on the Chinese sticks they were too heavy and it dawned on me that the Pom Pom stick can use heavy items on the cords, as they do not work like the Chinese sticks with a weight internally, lifting.
THAT IS WHEN THE PLUMBER'S STICKS WAS BORN. I did this before 1980, as I did it on a TV Special in Japan in '80.
When I decided to make them up to market (at Joe Stevens' suggestion) I decided to use all inexpensive, real, PVC pipe, etc. from Home Depot, as a comedy prop should not look slick.
I also didn't want the price point too high, so that kids could afford them.

I think you should also get in touch with Stolina Magie since that prop has been in their catalog for a long time. Personally I have never heard anyone complains about Boretti before. He has published many original routines in his lecture notes in last 20-30 years.I will check if he included that routine in his notes and what year it was.

Thanks, I looked t it on Stolina's site. I don't read German, but I did see Seabrooke's name there. What I do know is the man at www.future-magic.de is the one MAKING THEM and he refused to budge.
Right now it looks like I can't stop him, but his price of $125.00 vs. $49.50 for the originals should help me.

Paul Gross is one of the best dealers I have ever worked with.. honest, nice.. always lookign out for his dealers AND his customers in the most ethical way possible.
Pete is one of the more creative, kinder magicians in the biz.. and certainly doesn't need to be ripped off by someone with questionable ethics.
Both of these guys have helped to make http://www.wack-o-magic.com one of the most successful new magic manufacturers... and I have to thank them both for their business, creativity, and their ethics.
