What would you say is the most over priced over hyped out of print book. For me the answer would be Ricky Jays Cards As Weapons. I remember when I first saw the book in person thinking THIs is what all the excitement is about!?

Body Magic? Good stunts and good book, but over hyped and over priced for the one or two stunts you would typically choose to do.

Another one that can go on this list is "Protocols of the Elders of Magic". Actually, I don't know if this one is particularly over-hyped but because of its collectability it has definitely become over-priced. Mind you, I'm not complaining because I have a copy I'm open to selling.

I definitely second the motion on this piece of garbage. I cannot understand the collector prices being paid on a book that contains absolutely NO MAGIC!! I had a copy that I sold on Ebay for around $125.00 if I remember, which was $124.01 more than it was worth, however great for my pocketbook. Not complaining about the bid I got, just the contents of what I sold.

That book has a special place in my heart, because I know the artist who did the cover art for the book and once tried to buy it.

For me it's JK Hartman's Card Craft. The unbelievable price I paid for it crushed me when I got it and found out what they paid for it. Let's just say I'll NEVER be able to sell it and brake even.

There is some fantastic material in this - I think this topic is very subjective. I think the Derren Brown books became too expensive, considering their content.

You don't know how much I paid for it. A ridiculous sum of money.

This Way Up wasn't all that bad. Ads were a bit deceiving, but Colin's version made it worth it in the end.

Not going to say which book I think fits the bill until after I unload it on someone for top dollar.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Well this has to be a record. I was interested in 3 Kanter's catalogs to complete my collection of this company. I occasionally bought stuff from a dealer in Canada, so I wrote him and asked if he had these 3 particular catalogs.
He did, and the price was...............wait for it...............$350.00. No sale..... I still have the email and someday I think I'll frame it.
Needless to say I have not purchased from this guy since, and I found the three catalogs for $8, $10 and $12.00 - a total of $30 for the three catalogs I wanted.
My guess is this guy gets away with ripping off people who do not know what they are doing. A sad state for the magic community and collectors.

Maybe the guy who wanted $350 didn't really want to sell them and break up his collection? Or maybe $350 was the going rate and the person you bought them from didn't realize it and undersold them to you, losing out on hundreds of dollars (i.e. you ripped him off)? Value is in the eye of the beholder - it's hard to call a rip-off on people's tastes and wants rather than needs. I'm just saying only one person in a two-party transaction ever feels they got ripped-off.

It wasn't that it was terrible, it was the advertising that was deceptive. Also the price for an old concept dressed up as it was, was ridiculas. As far as it being strong, well I guess that's subjective as to where you are at in your development, something we all must go through. For me, and I stress for me, it was a great disappointment.

Dan Bradbury has been selling magic books for as long as I can remember. Here is his original posting at his website. He has not taken it down yet. The other book I bought from was, Byron Walker, a magic collector in California who co-wrote the book Conjuring Catalogs. I think both of these guys know what they are doing. Actually I was off $2 on one of the books, so it was less than $30. I have no reason to lie. If you want me to post the original email, I will send it by PM. Thank you.
