If you don't mind taking the ribbing, you may eventually get more humble.

In a few years, that is....

Just saying!

Actually, you are getting EXCELLENT advice IF you heed it and read between the lines:

-There's a big difference between being confident and cocky; between being arrogant and proud.

-Clear communication is important, whether in the way you come across or taking a few moments of inconvenience to use Spellchecker.

-You ARE talented and should be proud of your accomplishments---developing your magic, producing your video, et al. But it may be wise to also realize MANY of us on this forum have also done these things, including working with multi-million dollar corporations. Sorry, but that really doesn't impress some of us! We CAN share what has worked for us and probably save you years of frustration we went through in the School Of Hardknocks IF you are open to it. If you just want to post videos of how clever you are using magic to get Bikini Babe kisses from strangers, that's your call!

I honestly thought English was a second language for you. Yes, this is a community of both professionals and amateurs. A community that relies on written word to carry on discussions. How can you effectively do that when you are too lazy to check your own spelling and grammar? Your failure in school to learn to spell the most simplest of words isn't what irks me the most, it is your apathy about it. I don't spell all words perfectly either, but I take strives to do the best I can. Do you ever notice words underlined in red as you type them on here? That means they are misspelled. You can do what I do, I type most of my responses in Word that way I can check for errors before I post them. How can you expect 'creative influences' when you don't even care to make your messages readable for us? You're 19 now, you are a man, quit typing like a 12 year old on a cell phone.

On the positive side, you have a very solid demo reel and look like you have a lot of talent.

All small town magicians know what 793.8 signifies.

I tried like h*ll to understand what you are trying to say, but seriously, no offense intended, your spelling and grammar is so poor I simply have no idea. If you are looking for advice from professionals, or even amateurs, please, PLEASE consider going back to school (perhaps night school) and learn how to communicate so you don't sound like a fifth grader. You may, as you claim, be working with multi million dollar companies and the best hypnotists in the world, but to the average person, you, without a doubt, appear to be uneducated, uncaring of the fact, and embarrass yourself and the art every time you write. My SERIOUS advice? Your communication skills and the lack of basic grade school grammar is far more important in life than your your tricks that get you kisses. Seriously man, put some effort into learning to communicate and not only will people stop seeing you as an invalid in need of pity, but it will do WONDERS for your reputation. Unless you have a disability (which if you do I sincerely apologize), there is no excuse for not putting the same amount of effort into learning grade school grammar as you do your effects. Do YOURSELF a favor and if you can combine your skill with decent communication, I truly feel you will go further than you ever thought. It is no lie when I say my 10 year old, who is no honor student, can write better than you. This is not an insult, just HONEST feedback that I KNOW will help you more in the end than any effect or skill you may have. I sincerely wish you good luck.

If nothing else just try and slow down a bit.
Also listen to people who have been in the game a lot longer than you, they are trying to help you even if they aren't agreeing with you.

Kind regards,

Guys, were none of you cocky when you began? You don't go into showbiz unless you think you are the best. I have more of a problem with the guys who are not cocky. Why not look beyond the grammar and see if you can be more constructive.

Actually, I was never cocky when I began and am still humble after 25 years of magic. I know my limits, I know there are people with skills that I will never have, and I know I am not perfect and never will be. In fact, I would argue that many people are shy and insecure when they begin. I've tried to be as constructive as possible regarding this young man and his video. You really don't go into show business unless you think you are the best? I have to disagree, at least for me and many of my friends and colleagues "in the business" as either amateurs or pros that I have met over the decades. Many people that get into magic are introverts, and magic is a perfect way to help overcome that. I still cringe at the cocky magician, as I am sure many laymen do as well. Nobody likes assumed inferiority rubbed in their face. For some, the cockiness fits their persona, others not. I happen to fall into the category of the latter. I think being humble (at least for me) as a far better path to take, and many a great teacher have echoed the same. I did look beyond the grammar and offered my honest opinion (granted, not here but in his other post of the same video), and I still maintain that a little modesty and decent communication skills will take a performer much farther in the long run than scamming kisses, especially if he is looking for constructive criticism. I love the art enough to speak honestly about my feelings on this matter even when I know others will surely disagree.

TonyB2009, I realize your comment wasn't directed solely at me, so I hope you won't take may comments personally, I am just trying to add to the conversation with an alternative view.

^ I think Mr. jack is right on. I have found that a cocky person is usually hiding many insecurities or is a narcisiss (sp?). I have known many very talented people who are very humble that share their gifts without worrying about their ego. They could CRUSH the cocky up-and-comers but see no need; they KNOW their capability and they choose not to compete to prove anything---they're already light years ahead. Some are recognised, some not. But as a whole they seem to live longer and have content lives.

Well being English, we do things a bit differently and go with beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

Meaning that we do our best at something and then it is up to the audience to say that we are great, fantastic, etc. Just acting like we are wonderful and we know it, seldom gets the desired response we want, here.

In fact I would go so far as to say that I have never understood the point of telling people you are wonderful as that is for them to decide. Telling them wonderful you are or just acting like you know, is a great way to get taken down a peg to two.

Of course I was cocky... And it was extremely painful. I doubt "nevar*spellchex" is still here, but if he is, he should be grateful for the fact that here are a group of people who are not cocky, and therefore, not judgmental.
