Hello Magi -
I'm building a wooden block castle for my kid shows and it seems to me that this might play well for Bizarre Magic. This one comes from Harbin, and one shows a box of wooden blocks; pick off a few, dump the rest on the table, cover with a cloth, and voila! A wooden block castle has appeared.
The effect, at least in my mind, would be a bit like the scene in "The Sixth Sense" where the mother returns to the kitchen to find every drawer and cupboard door opened.
Just throwin' it out there.

That would be nice in a séance where you are calling on a small child. (lilian's diary perhaps).

I could see this working alongside Dolly Darko. After the castle is revealed one of the blocks accidentally gets knocked off the top into the cabinet and Dolly throws it back out. Or make a smaller version and have Dolly build it herself.

There's a published effect by Mark Strivings where he builds a "castle" with children's blocks. As he tells a story about a child that dies. At the end slowly the castle colapses, one block at a time by its self.
That could be the follow up to the castle "appearing".

Whoa, glad to see I'm not the only one whose thoughts skitter down such darkened twists and turns! If you've ever been on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at one of the Disney parks, you'll hear "It's raining, it's pouring," etc., in the ride's soundtrack. The voice is clearly that of a young girl, but the impression is otherworldly and mildly disturbing. THAT'S the contrast I think this bit could present - something which is simultaneously innocuous and unsettling.
I'm not familiar with the Strivings routine or method, but the Harbin method is, let's say, "secure." That is, the blocks look convincingly jumbled and unattached. I think this would be worth the R&D needed to tweak it for Bizarre presentations.

The child in me loves Card Castles, and the deviant in me loves the potential for this!
Can anyone reference the sources for the Strivings and Harbin routines? Thanks.
