"Stratfor analysts did not believe that Osama bin Laden was buried at sea, according to Stratfor emails leaked by WikiLeaks.

At 5:26 a.m. on May 2, the morning after Barack Obama announced the successful raid on bin Laden's Abbottabad compound, Stratfor CEO George Friedman sent an email with the subject "[alpha] OBL" that said:

Reportedly, we took the body with us. Thank goodness.

Fred Burton, Stratfor's vice president for intelligence, followed that up at 5:51 a.m. with an email titled "[alpha] Body bound for Dover, DE on CIA plane" that said:

Than [sic] onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda.

At 1:36 p.m. Burton replied to a thread named "Re: OBL's corpse" with the message:

Body is Dover bound, should be here by now."

Makes much more sense than the official version. Not that it really matters to me other than the reflexive lies that are told.

I would be *highly* surprised to see people who would be involved with this titling their emails like that (OBL's corpse).

I agree as well. I believe that legitimate communications would use code words for the subject involved.

I'm not the conspiracy sort, but what if this silly-sounding story was designed to discredit WikiLeaks? I don't believe it was, but what if?

Unless I missed something, Stratfor was not involved in the operation. And these guys were talking about the operation in the past tense (after the troops had removed the body etc.). What reason would a couple of execs at Stratfor have to use code words? If anything, experience shows that high level execs are pretty loosey goosey with their internal emails.

Then WikiLeaks was pretty stupid to buy into it.

BTW about the Osama thing up above. I don't know if I believe the story or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Stratfor people were just caught up in the moment, dealing with bad intel, and treating rumours as facts.

I am thinking that, like official government stories and releases, Wikileaks material can also be not true to begin with. Sure, truth will come from either source, but rarely intentionally and almost always by accident.

Also consider that DNA material from bin Laden was sent to the US for positive identification. That could have been a source of confusion.

The emails, though, do give the impression that they were sent while the body was allegedly in transit. That is another aspect that makes me suspicious. Why would Stratfor officials be privy to actual details of a classified mission being carried out by the Navy and, presumably, CIA?

Would there be a good reason to hold onto his body? I cannot think of a compelling reason.

I think an autopsy might have been a reasonable Intelligence requirement.

So someone (politician or member of the military industrial complex) can have his head stuffed and mounted in his man-cave?

Strange as it may sound, this is about the only reason I can think of to keep the body - so some people can see the person they have been aiming for for so long.

Mind you, I do not think its a really great reason....

Probably an autopsy would be conducted to verify that he was killed as was reported. Example number of shots fired from what direction any defesive wounds etc. Just speculation on my part. But that would be the logical reason I would think. I am not sure whether the whole senario was recored including him being shot. However I am glad he is gone.

I don't think they would have kept the body, but I think an autopsy might have been conducted for Intel purposes. Who knows--perhaps to confirm medical conditions and food habits that could lead to other connections.

They could have had him "tanned" and used as a dart board.

"101 Uses for a Dead Cat" was (IMHO) a comedy classic book.

"101 Uses for a Dead Bin Laden" may have potential!

That's what I love about the conspiracy nuts, their ability to shift gears so quickly. They also aren't bothered by self-contradiction. Yesterday he wasn't really dead and it was all an elaborate hoax. Now he really is dead and it's what's been done with the body that's the hoax.

Extreme conspiracy theories usually contain a "Strange Loop." Any evidence against them is interpreted as evidence for them. Those that debunk conspiracies are simply seen as part of the conspiracy.

No. You see, Stratfor is obviously part of the Conspiracy. When the Government realized that the people weren't buying into that whole burial at sea thing, the Stratfor eMails were leaked as disinformation to establish that there REALLY IS a body. But we know better - they're all in on it. (And forget about those photoshopped death pics they fabricated for members of Congress to look at.)

That just a cover story concocted by the CFR and the Bilderbergers (probably in conjunction with the Knights of Malta, who are good at making costumes). They think some of us will believe anything.
