Hi Everyone,
I purchased this DVD recently by Gary Dunn....it is sold through Practical Magic, I really enjoyed this. The quality of the DVD picture, editing and sound are very good. This is a two DVD set...the first DVD being the Magic Show and the second Gary's games.... here is my Review. First off is Gary's warm up...just brilliant!! you can tell straight away just by looking at Gary that he is going to be funny, his cheeky face was made for fun. His warm up is a masterclass on how to entertain with the best prop of all...yourself. Next up is the Axtell meter which is good and get's everyone screaming with the boy's against the girl's. The Twentieth Century Silks is also very funny......all Gary's routines are well worked and polished and non stop fun. Here are all the routines on DVD 1 - Off The meter, Twentieth Century Silks, Comedy Balloon routine, Picture Fun, Colin the Chicken and Watch the water. My favourite is Picture Fun...a simple routine with loads of laughs, take a prop and put the time and effort into making it great....and that's what Mr Dunn does time after time. The second DVD is Gary's game show that uses vitually no prop's. I did not get as much from this DVD as I did from the first.....he does a custard pie game and all the teachers end up being splatted. I also have a custard pie routine in my show, the difference is I end up splatted not the teachers!!...Gary's braver than me. There is also a performance of The Love story....the quality of the picture and sound is poor but you can still follow the routine. Again this is how to entertain with a few assistants and no props. I love this DVD and feel most people will get loads to add and better there own shows. Gary looks like he would be great fun on a night out.....he has been in the business for 20 years and knows how to "keep them laughing". Cheers John |

Thanks for the review John.
I also bought the DVD set when they first were made available and I agree with John, the first DVD "The Show" ROCKS!!! Mr. Dunn is very funny and you can definately tell he has been doing this a long time. I didn't get into DVD 2 it is just not me. Saying that the set is way to cheap, the price is too cheap for the first dvd alone. Spend the money and see a real pro work and learn from him! Harlin |

I also highly recommend Dunn's dvd set. I own a lot of dvd's of magicians' children's shows. Some of Dunn's comedy techniques were a real revelation to me. He has a way of extending and milking gags that is unmatched. The verbal warm-up to his show was masterful, and hilarious. I picked up a ton of gags from watching his performances, including his second dvd with the games and "Love Story" segment, even though I am not interested in adding games to my show or in performing a segment like "Love Story." The tapes are a brilliant illustration of how to do children's comedy.

Hey John - Thanks for the great review!! It was so much fun to make with the team from Practical Magic and I'd like to thank Jeremy, Ricky & Kimmo for all their efforts. Also, as you know, the children you pick to assist can either 'make or break' a show and I was extremely happy with all my little assistants on the day. The 'Love Story' segment of the DVD was recorded a couple of years back, live at a Holiday Park in the UK. It was shot on an older SD camera, and although still very watchable, the quality is not as good as the rest of the discs which were shot in HD.
Tommy - I think you'd love this DVD. I must admit, after watching your 'style' in your online demo's, I find yours is very similar to mine! You can see more about the DVD here: http://www.practical-magic.com/index.php......temid=33 Thanks so much for all the comments. Gary http://www.garydunn.com |

I'm not a fan of "the warm-up" but I'm sure I could be convinced otherwise.

I'm not sure that I want to add an extended warm-up to my show like Dunn's, but I appreciate Dunn's skill, and I learned some things I didn't understand about children's comedy from his performance. |

I'm really glad this DVD is getting the kind of acclaim it deserves - Mike Bent and Terry Herbert both raved about it!
I have been using Picture Fun and Watch the Water since December and they have both been smash hits in my show. The aah game from disc 2 has also saved my life on more than one occasion - it's an incredible 15 minute spot that you can perform at any time with just a microphone!

Hi , Ooops I forget to mention the aah game... as Kimmo states... loads of fun with just a Mic. And let's not forget Mr Kimmo's fine editing skills :0). If you don 't have this DVD your missing out on watching a great children's entertainer at work.

Firstly, I had forgotten that the Aah game was Gary's routine. I have used this too. You can also use raspberries cos I like my audiences covered in spit. I've even used it on adults (you obviously don't get to do the cute bit at the end though). Secondly, I have been performing picture fun on and off for a year now and have a lot of fun with it. Would love to see what way Gary went with it. Mine has some nice moments but I'm still not 100% happy with it. Love the effect though (done that on adults aswell!) P.S. I'm not posting this all again |
