As mentalists we are all interested in body magic/fake hypnosis effects. I want to give you a warning. I got my hands on James Coats - No Props Needed Body Magic DVD and I still trying to wash out the dirt.
This is one of the worst DVD I've ever seen. Lame effects, lamer presentations, annoying (no to say idiotic) stage persona. There are some segments there that are so horrible you should buy this DVD just to watch them. I'm not kidding. HORRIBLE.
You've been warned.

p.s. This is not a review. It's a plain warning.

I'm not sure I agree with this statement. Many mentalists I know don't care to do either. Thanks for the head up warning.

Body Magic by John Fisher is an interesting read. Not sure if it's back in print. I'm curious how he researched and came up with all the tricks.

I'm not particularly interested in body magic with regard to mentalism.
I mean, I do find it interesting; but I find split fans and dancing canes interesting too, just not in relationship to my mentalism.
I'm not saying that I don't see the relation, I do.
I totally understand how body magic can be incorporated into a mentalism show and I have several ideas that I've been playing with on and off for a long time, I just don't think that it is a subject that is inherently interesting to mentalists like.
Which raises the question of what IS inherently interesting to mentalists.
I would say/hope the history of spiritualism, that being the origin of our art, but that's a whole 'nother thread.
EDIT:
I watched the penguin magic preview.
It don't look like particularly high production quality, but I didn't really see anything wrong with what I saw.
Again though, a large portion of the preview was showing things like Meir Yedid's finger removal trick (blanking on the name). That is a great trick, I still do it sometimes for kids; but that is clearly magic and has nothing to do with mentalism. Also, cracking you knuckles like that is more of a funny stunt, something that might be good before a magic trick.
I'm just saying that I'm not sure this video is aimed at mentalists and therefore this review (I mean warning) might not be totally fair.
