Just received. For the first time in history, a parcel has seemingly arrived in Canada before anywhere else. Thank you Lulu. Book looks great. Fortunately(or unfortunately) I have a mystic fair on Saturday and a mentalism gig on Sunday so I will only be able to give a cursory look. I am sure reviews will be pouring in over the weekend.

Are you saying you ordered this through lulu.com?

I've gotten through about 80 pages this evening. It really is an extraordinary collection. My head is swimming with all the ideas I've gotten so far. Hats off to Neal and all of his contributors. Bravo!

I'm jealous of all of you.
I have the black and the white book, but will not be getting this one.

Of course, in reality, I have more stuff than I could ever use so I will console myself with that ...but you never know where that one routine, concept or other will be that sparks a light and brings it all together.

Perhaps, when a flood of positive reviews are posted you will consider changing your mind. I am certainly liking what I've been able to read so far.

I met with Neal and other friends today in NYC and he showed us copies of tbe finished product. It's a beautiful book, hardbound with a tastefully designed dust jacket. The typefaces and layout are attractive, and the photos and illustrations are first quality. But most of all, the material is super and diverse.

This book is destined to become a bonafide classic.

Thanks for mentioning the dust jacket and layout, Joe. Many talented people helped me with this project. Mark Stevens from Stevens Magic did an amazing job with designing the dust jacket. Between cruises and publishing his own magazine, Vanish, Paul Romhany did a wonderful job with the layout. Raj Madhok, an exceptionally busy doctor and talented magician, did the proof reading. In fact, he did much more than that, and should really be called a second editor. Without their enthusiasm and hard work I'd have struggled to get this book out. Thank you very much, Mark, Paul and Raj!

Has nothing to do with a change of mind.
My mind is fully made up that this book is amazing.

It's more to do with a change of pocketbook.
If several hundred dollars manifests before these are all sold out then I will certainly have a copy.
.....It may happen, that's why I have the first two books.

Thank you Richard for your kinds words. As I typset the book I had the privelage of being one of the first to have it in my possesion prior to publication. As I read through it I knew it was something very special, and feel incredibly proud to have played such a small part in the production of it. It's a book every mentalist will definitely want to own.

I am now at page 146 and am suffering from information overload. Need a break. There are so many wonderful ideas, I don't wish to mention only one. Many are not new but older ideas cloaked with a new cloth. But in most cases, it is an interesting cloth and one that would unlikely have been contrived in solitary. Of course, the Box of Enlightenment is a highlight but only as the author mentions, if taken seriously. Not everyone will be able to do this but everyone should find something, or several things, that can be used. After my head stops spinning, I shall read some more.

Mine arrived today and who knows, maybe strange influences were at work.

I literally only had time to quickly open the book and read one contribution. This was by Christopher Taylor involving paperclips. Strange as it may seem, the effect I currently use most involves paperclips and Chris's contribution could make a good follow on from what I currently do.

So already Scryer and Friends has proved exceptionally good and useful reading and with 650+ pages still to go!

I got my copy this weekend. At 671 pages, there is an enormous amount to digest. And with 84 contributors, there is a wide range of styles and presentations. It kind of feels like Annemann's Practical Mental Effects or Bascom Jones' Collected Magick. There are things you know you'll try, things you'll never try but get you thinking, and enough weird and brilliant thinking to fry your brain. I have some favorites, but I bet they will change as other chapters grab my attention. So far, my top choices are Scryer's "Box of Enlightenment," Raj Madhok's "Fossa Nature," and Alexander Thomas' "Sitting in the Dark." All very, very different. I really enjoyed Alexandre's "Touch of Hands" but doubt I will do it. I also enjoyed Ted Karmilovich's "The Secret". I doubt I'd try that one as well but it made me laugh out loud.

Good Stuff,
B.

I live in Korea, so I was able to see the movie The Avengers last Thursday. I got the 4D tickets and was shocked when I found out they were 18,000 won, about $16 US. But I paid because, when I was a kid, the Avengers was my favorite comic. The money still bothered me, but in the 4D theater, my seat shook, I felt the concussion when things blew up, I could hear Hawkeye's arrows whiz past my ears and feel the breeze. When Ironman flew across the water, I was sprayed with water. When I left the theater, all I could think was, Wow! Eighteen thousand won was not cheap, but, after seeing the movie in 4D, I have no regrets about paying it.

What does this have to do with Neal Scryer & Friends. I'm sure you all have sussed that out. When I saw the sticker price of the book, I thought, That's a lot of jack. But I had both the Black and White books, enjoyed and got a lot out of them, so I Paypalled my money to Richard. I got the book today and all I can say is, Wow! It's completely worth it.

Obvously, I haven't had a chance to delve deeply in it. I've picked and chose some of my favorite performer's entries or looked at titles that intrigued me and they are amazing. I've often seen some of the mentalism books that I've bought called tomes, when they were, at times, little more than pamphlets. I'm not putting them down, I usually get good information from what I buy. Maybe, because I'm an English teacher, I'm criticizing their definition of 'tome.' THIS book is a tome. It's about as big as TA Waters' Mind, Myth and Magick (without the monkey). There is so much in this book and the authors are the pantheon of mentalism's Olympus (or Asgard, if you prefer). So much experience, so many routines, so much information. So Worth The Money.

And I want to add that dealing with Richard Webster is always a pleasure. He's one of the finest gentlemen in this business. I hope to meet him someday.

Now, I'm going to read some more of the book.

Two things to get excited about: Scryer's book and the arrival of 4D movies in the US.

What a book!! Unbelievable.

I am into the book about 100 pages and I am sure I got my money's worth by page 50. Anything put out by Webster and Scryer is worth its weight in gold ... nah, make that platinum. Awesome work! Thank you.

A warning to all those currently waiting for a copy.

Get all those odd jobs you need to get done now so they are out of the way. When the book arrives, you will see it is huge and you'll need to set time aside to read and digest.

It's a mammoth work and big read.

Now, where did I get to .....?
