I was and am interested. Very.

Nope, nothing.
All that was really promised was that subscriptions would open up. Not even that happened. The rest (forums, etc. ) was wishful thinking on our part.
All other areas of the member links that were used to sign us up just say "closed" or "coming soon"

Me neither.
Technically they have until midnight, but isn't it already past 12 in many places?

The first rule of RS is you will not talk about RS.
The second rule of RS is you will NOT talk about RS.
So I won't talk about it. I love it.

I'll say this much now. I just got my number. The site is back up. The charter member price is gone and as expected any new members pay full price. Special blog for member updates. Not much else yet, but who knows?
They don't want us talking about what we receive, and of course they don't want us describing or posting the effect, what it takes to accomplish it, etc... but they do say we can talk about our general RS experiences.
It was a while in coming, and my initial dissatisfaction was their apparent lack of customer service. Not for me specifically, but... well, you know.
I would imagine a project like this would have some of these details in place before they went "live" but it's better late than never.
Three weeks to go before the next installment arrives!

Because last time I checked I'm entitled to an opinion the same as anyone else.

That doesn't really answer the basic question of why you'd bother to read and post in a thread about something you claim to have no interest in.

Read my posts & you'll see my interest is about the way it's been run. I couldn't give a monkey's about what you get. I don't believe you'll be getting anything new so I don't care. But if any other business offered their products with such stipulations they'd get no business.
Only in magic would you get someone willing to part with cash for something they know nothing about & then told they can't discuss it. If you can't see how this might be the top of a slippery slope then more fool you. Just as the one trick DVD is the norm today. Everyone just excepts that but are we getting value for our money? Of course not.
Hey, some of you may agree, some disagree, & some that just have more money than sense. If you're happy, all well & good. But don't tell me I've no right to express my view.

Maybe the site has changed since it first went up but it looks to be like you're not really paying money for a effect but a fee to join a "club" where members get "effects" as part of the membership. And like all secret private clubs they don't want you to expose what goes on in the club, what happens in the club, and what items you get from the club.

Right now I'm not sure I agree with you. At present the only thing we're getting is monthly delivery of effects. It's more like a magazine subscription in that regard than a "club"
That may change as the RS program gets underway and they start adding features for their "members" (a.k.a. subscribers)

Newguy, yes to both. Not the same as a discussion forum but it's at least a start.

In keeping with the magazine subscription analogy, at present the blog is similar to "Letters to the Editor"
I have posted questions/suggestions and have yet to see them appear on the page, although I got an acknowledgement email asking permission to republish.

I don't see the harm in having a private forum to discuss the effects and talk freely among other members but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'm having lot's of fun with the first release in any case.

There should definitely be a forum for members on the RS site, but I believe it would be a real hassle for Mr. Brooks to host one here. It would then fall upon him to determine who is a subscriber to RS and who is not. Why would he want to provide all the bandwidth to support a business in which he has no interest? Maybe if the RS people paid for it. Of course I don't speak for Steve, so who knows?

It doesn't have to be hosted here. If RS wants one, RS should host their own. It's not that hard.
On another subject, for the RS members who haven't visited the site, look again. There's some new stuff you might like.

I hope they don't make a private forum (or any forum). I have enough message boards to go through. I like the way it's set up now. If someone has an idea they can submit it and if it's decent enough then they seem more than willing to share it with the RS community via their blog. And yes, I realize that I'm then putting the power to determine what is a "good" idea in someone else's hands, but that's fine. for this small area of my magic endeavors I'll leave it to someone else to separate the wheat from the chaff.

As with any forum, you're free to participate, or not, as you see fit. The blog is nice and should continue, but some people like more.

The blog is used to add additional ideas to the effects. If there is a message board then maybe the blog becomes redundant. But I don't want to have to read through everyone's dull ideas to get to the good stuff. If you have a good idea that you're compelled to share, there should be no difference in emailing it off to them as opposed to posting it in on a message board.
It's not that I don't understand why a message board might appeal to some people -- it amounts to no more than a difference of opinion -- I just happen to prefer the "letter to the editor" approach they've taken so far.

I agree.
While I'm sure ALL the members have interesting ideas, I'd rather the professionals at Real Secrets to comb through the ideas and post the what they think is the best.

This raises a question I've been wondering about: Do subscribers to RS know who those professionals are, now that the material has started coming out?
(I'm not asking who they are if it's a secret intended for subscribers only; I'm just curious about whether it's been divulged to RS members.)

Sorry, we (RS subscribers) are not allowed to discuss this. Hope you can respect that.
Actually, why not stop digging for information and just sign up? There's too much fishing going on around here for my liking.

I think there's room for both. The blog is a perfect way to add value. The discussion board can be totally separate for members to collaborate among themselves. I can ask questions of the members and not worry about if it's "Blog worthy." If the RS manager finds something worthy of mention, they can edit it down for blog use. At present my submissions and questions have not been seen because it was never added to the blog.
Okay, I admit. I might be biased. I've been participating in forums both private and public before the "internet" became what it is today. The word "Blog" hadn't been invented yet. From what I see so far of RS, they could easily handle both if they chose to do so.
