Even easier solution. Don't perform for magicians. I never do. You need special tricks to fool the magi. I never bother. I always know when a magician is present at my shows. They are the ones scowling and crossing their arms, whispering to their friends. When I make eye contact and smile, they turn away in disgust. So easy to spot, lol Magicians are the worst audience. Why? Because they "Know it all" Course, knowing it all
and having the guts to get up in front of everybody and perform is a bit different, isn't it?

It seems to me anyone with an ounce of common sense would know better than to perform any Real Secrets effects directly for other magicians, especially your magic club buddies. You are stepping into a quagmire in that venue. You know what the response(s) will be: Where did you get that? Who's is that? How much is it? How is it done? etc., etc., etc....

Your responses, using whatever evasive maneuvers you can muster, may tip some of them off as to just where this had to come from since you don't generally avoid the simple questions they are asking. And, since they aren't under agreement with Real Secrets, internet posts come pouring forth. Performing these at a magic club really defeats the whole philosophy of the organization.

There's a simple solution to that: Just present the effect as your own invention. The only people who'll know you're lying are other Real Secrets subscribers...and the rules prevent them from telling anyone else where you got it. Problem solved!

I'm confused. Was this a very elaborate drawn out April fools joke?

Let's assume you subscribe to Real Secrets. And it ignites your curiosity so much so that you create a new routine based off the Real Secrets material, and you wish to sell your new creation. Is it okay, as a member, to sell your new routine, with absolutely no crediting? Is that what Real Secrets would expect and want? Just something to think about.

Mike

This isn't Fight Club, and I have questions about routining of the first delivery, but apparently I can't talk about it and so far there is no provision for discussion among the members. I see one weakness, and one flaw that won't escape detection for very long, if at all.

What to do... PM anyone?

What happens on April 6?

I only see that as the date they open up subscriptions again after the initial signup phase. Is there anything that says there is more?

As it stands now, although I'm not planning on getting myself kicked out, if their customer support doesn't improve, they'll be losing a repeat subscriber as soon as what I paid for expires.

If you buy a trick from Joe Stevens, do you call him up for presentational ideas?

If you learn a trick in this month's Genii, where do you go for more routining ideas?

I think the routine they gave us is direct and strong.

Looked at your website, wasn't this made for a guy like you?

No, I don't call Joe, but I can usually confide in my friends who have the effect. Yes, the trick is right up my alley, but I see some presentational flaws that I would eventually like to discuss.

Segovia didn't compose guitar music, he performed it. Some of us are composers, some of us are performers. There's plenty of room for both.

I already have some ideas for improvement, but sadly nobody will ever know about it.

Dave

They have delivered on all promises so far (even turning away folks who did not uphold their agreement)

I have no reason to think that they will not give us the place to share that they described.

So your first delivery was something old we all know, not even a trick but a game? And refills are available at extra cost?

Pfff! This whole RS thing IMO revolves around blackmail & extortion. BatsMagic has already been booted out because he said he received 30 plastic sleeves! I wish all exposure was so vague.

How discussing RS's goods with other magicians is a bad thing I'll never know. Surely if the items were quality & were reviewed here in the normal way that would encourage others to join? But no, RS slap a gagging order on you so you can't say anything, good or bad. I can't believe anyone would sign up & pay to be dictated to in such a way.

I didn't subscribe - but I think its a good thing, secrets are too easily shared and fished for these days, and its kinda nice that people are making sure secrets stay secrets... and there is the choice to join up or not isn't there...so if you're not happy with the criteria, its as simple as not handing over your money and moving right along, surely?

up to the individuals in how they conduct their business...

I agree with you Iain about secrets remaining secrets. But not being allowed to discuss things with other magicians is going a bit far & is bound to set alarm bells ringing. And has.

Anyhoo, I haven't & won't subscribe so I'll say no more.

Russ,

I think it is about not discussing with others who have not made the same commitment

This is a public forum

PUBLIC

This is not a thread behind the "number of posts" threshold

I suspect (hope) that th RS people will give members a way to share their ideas, questions and tips

We are on the fourth day of a 365+. Day experience

My goodies were in my mailbox the first possible day they could have been.

I find it a bit silly that anyone could make a definitive love it - hate it pronouncement until they had road tested it many times in many settings

We all know (thanks to Bats) that NO ONE has performed this more than 30 times.

Think about that

If magicians were as good at performing as we were at forming and announcing our opinions (myself included) there would be an astonishing number of great magicians

They say "Practice What You Preach"

Forums like this sometimes give us too much Preaching Practice

End of Sermon

I'm still puzzled as to why Bats was kicked out. If it was TMI, what "I" was he saying "Too Much" about? In the discussion on Genii, the RS spokesperson seemed to make it clear that we could talk about it, talk up RS (of course! Who wouldn't want free advertising?) as long as we didn't discuss the effect directly or post explanations or videos online.

And that is nonsense. How many reviews can be read here without making a commitment? You're trying to justify conditions imposed upon you that can't be justified. Anyway, it's your money so do what you will.

The conditions imposed were agreed upon in the beginning. The subscribers like the conditions. You don't like them, you didn't subscribe. Cool.
Don't worry about it.

The worst secret keepers are...guess who? MAGICIANS!! With these conditions, anyone telling others about the effects does not get to play anymore. As subscribers we find out every month what is in the box. Seems you want to know too but you don't want to agree or pay.
Sorry this deal is not like that,
James
