I was looking at 'Hypnosis FAQ' undert Lee Darrow, and reading his understanding of what hypnosis IS.
I have to say I disagreed with much of it.
Why not take a read and see if there are areas YOU mind find challenging?

It is fairly much all you need to get across to an audience. The truth or otherwise is immaterial. I don't believe there is anything happening on the stage.

Check out Tony's new thriller The Gilli Gilli Man at Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Gilli-Tony-Black-Mysteries-ebook/dp/B007GFD0NQ/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1363055541&sr=8-16&keywords=The+Gilli+Gilli+Man

What happened to Lee Darrow? I heard he was ill. He used to be a very prolific contributor to magic forums but seems now to have vanished from the internet.

When I first joined FB his name came up and I contacted him to say Hi and reminded him he wrote the FAQ for this board. He replied that he barely remembered he had done that and had not visited in years.

I know he's still performing as I recently filled in for him due to a double scheduling conflict. I was told he still monitors the proceedings here occasionally but chooses not to participate. Times have changed here.

I have to say inspite of the fact I disagree with some of his definitions and indeed findings I have to say that a lot of what he did say in here was excellent.
I should also clarify that there would have a been a time when I would have agreed with all he said. It's interesting how, rather than simply change our minds our experiences change them for us. And in certain cases change them back again

What areas do you think should be changed then?

"Times have changed here"

So has the world!
Entertainment and ways of providing it and viewing it have also changed as well.

Things do change. Modern magicians (Outside of the ancient one at the local magic club) don't dress up in top hats and tails and saw women in half in boxes the that could contain an elephant. So why should any other entertainment, including hypnosis, also change with and as the world does?

And also on here!

Not changed it's just that many GOOD hypnotists would disagree with several of his points. Here is what 'I' would say

In point
1) I think the hypnotist CAN make you do things against your will
2)Some CANNOT come out of it of their own freewill
4) Some are completely unconscious (or to be precise: 'unaware') of what's going on.
5)One CAN be made to reveal secrets
6)Hypnosis CAN be dangerous
8) I think there is a tad of emperical evidence out there that certain types ARE addicted to hypnosis.
(note that the numbers are based on how HE numbered them)

I wouldn't have a desire to argue with anyone on all of these, however my experience tells me that points: 1,4,5 and 6 are correct.
Like I said, I/we know things today we didn't know a couple years ago. The only reason I believe someone as skilled as Lee Darrow wouldn't know that is because he never tried, probably based on the fact that his mentor told him it couldn't be done perhaps?
ie: getting a stranger's pin number is now standard stock for many street hypnotists, is it not? What would Lee have said? That it didn't happen?

I agree 100% with Bob but have known all of the above for at least 20 years. I think most hypnotists know this but either tell lies because of PR or marketing or genuinely deceive themselves into believing that the points Bob made don't exist.

In my experience they DO beyond any doubt.

I am totally amazed when apparently experienced hypnotists haven't come to the above conclusions.
