Hi Guys & Gals,
I have watched this today and here is my review.
Paint the Roses Red by Lewis LeVal DVD
Running Time: 80 Minutes approx
First off, this is a very well produced DVD and as soon as you get a look and feel of the case the whole thing screams quality. The cover is brilliant, looks a little like a Horror film.
The DVD contains 7 effects as well as 5 PDF's and a 45min roundtable discussion between Dee Christopher and Lewis LeVal.
Harmony:
This is I suppose the 'signature' effect of the DVD and for me I loved it, I will be adding it straight away into my working set with a bit of presentational tweaking towards my own style. You can see yourself performing this and the reactions being very strong if presented well.
I really enjoyed 'Curiosity' and 'Off with his Head' a really nice gambling demonstration, for someone who does not perform gambling demos (such as myself) I will say you will use this, because of its simplicity and speed.
All of the effects on this DVD are not very difficult to perform, some very easy to learn material; but very strong at the same time.
For myself the highlight of the DVD was the discussion between Dee & Lewis, some fantastic performance tips and some exciting ideas to try out.
Overall I really enjoyed this release, it was fun to watch and I will be looking forward to what Lewis LeVal and the guys from 1914 release next.

Has your interest already peaked, or was it merely piqued?

The G should be capitalized in "God."
i.e. God how I hate pedants.

Surely it should have read: "God, how I hate pedants."

Sounds like it is an exclamation: "God, how I hate pedants!"

Pedants isn't even a real word. I think he meant to say, "God, how I hate pedophiles"

I watched Harmony and thought it looked a bit similar to an effect by Liam Montier called Henry Sugar. Turns out, it is very similar. So similar in fact that I was shocked to learn that Liam receives no credit on the project. I'm sure Lewis didn't know about Liam's trick. But maybe some sort of crediting arrangement could be worked out. It's just too similar to not credit Liam's effect.

The thing is, this is not a new principle AT ALL. Heaven only knows where I read it first and for sure, it wasn't applied in this way, but the fact that you can (blah blah blah) and end up with (blah blah blah) is surely older than many, if not all, hills. I'd be interested to know who first came up with the principle. That said, the first time I tried Harmony for myself (no I don't have the DVD) and it worked I giggled like a tangerine.

Well I finally purchased the DVD and I'm really glad I did.
I loved Harmony, indeed it kept me awake most of the night playing
around with ideas that were sparked off in my head and finally I had the lightbulb
moment of inspiration.
I can now perform a version of Harmony, whereby the deck of cards is brought out and
placed on the table Before anything begins.
The volunteer has a 100% Free choice of suit (no forces of any kind) and the suit they
choose is the one that is used for the effect.
They cut, then shuffle, then cut then shuffle as per original explained on DVD and the outcome
is the same effect to the audience.
Now I know you'll be thinking but whats the point in that when it looks identical to the
general public.
However I just wanted to find a solution to give them a 100% Free Choice of Suit and now I have.
Also the solution means that everything looks fair and normal when the cards are being dealt
face up by the spectator (eg absolutely nothing strange about the cards order will ever be noticed by anyone)
And it affords you the opportunity to INSTANTLY perform the effect again with another suit of cards
being chosen by a second spectaotor if you so desire with the exact same deck, and without you needing
to touch the deck at any time before this repeat performance.
Yes a very interesting DVD indeed...

You capitalize the first word of the sentence whether you believe in that deity or not. And, it's atheist, not athiest.

I've noticed after performing it countless times that every so often, the Ace gets separated and starts to make it's own pile. anyone else have this happen to them?

I think I'll stick with Henry Sugar. Taking a tip from that manuscript, you might want to cut the deck yourself for the second round to insure you go deep enough.

Is Henry Sugar's methodology close enough that I could play around with it and achieve some of the Harmony presentations?

Here's the thing, while Harmony is a nice effect, Henry really builds in impossibility. I don't see why you would want to do Harmony with Henry as Henry is so strong... "Harmony With Henry", sounds like a kids morning show from the 60s.

Haha, fair enough. Not quite sure why I worded the question that way as I have no intention of purchasing Henry Sugar to achieve the Harmony effect. I am awful at sleuthing out methods on the Café, but from what I've poked around for, it seemed as though part of the secret to both was the same. As it seems Harmony is getting the most buzz of this new set, I wonder if I should just get HS or if the extras on LeVal's make it a better go.
I'm thinking I'll get my fix with Mr. Montier's effect first.
