I got this from a friend who had lots of antique magic and collectable items. Such as a wrist chopper autographed Bill Wisch Book on the palm change dated 1978. But my dad recognized this particular item. It makes a coin vanish when put on the table. It looks to me like a very interesting piece. Is anyone familiar with it?

What does it say on the bottom? From here it looks-like a reproduction.

Google"antiques roadshow".Search the site for "1901 mechanical bank".They have an appraisal on one of these banks.I think Mr. Connolly is right though about it probably being a reproduction. An antique store by my house has a repro of this bank made in the 1940s.They are selling it for about $80.00.

I just remembered I have one here. It's a repro. Look on Ebay. They should be a ton on there.

Contact John Mendoza, here on the Café he is: runawayjag

There are originals of this bank, which are very expensive, there are some from the 1970s which are moderately priced and there are some new reproductions which can be purchased for less than $30 at places like Bits And Pieces.

I don't think this is new because it was with other antique magic that was between 50-30 Years old.

So assuming it is a 1970 reproduction, what would I sell this for?

1970 was 42 years ago. That is not antique. I have underwear older than that.

The table top is U.F. Grant's Tricky Table Top. It is fitted with a couple spring trap black art wells. Search around the internet and you may occasionally find one for sale. This is the best way to get an idea of the value. It doesn't show on MAK's web site, so probably not made anymore. Not terribly uncommon, though. Actual use is user specific. Make up your own tricks to use it with.

The chopper is based upon Grant's French Arm Chopper. I don't recognize the maker. If it is in good shape, the price may rival the Grant/MAK original. Read the description for the original, and play around with the arm hole, and you should begin to get an idea of how this should be used. If you still have problems send me a PM. If you lose a hand, call a doctor before sending me a PM.

The Magician Bank can be found in many so called antique malls. They sell for $10-$20. Yours is nothing special.

I believe the wrist chopper was made by BC Magic of St. Louis. As Michael said it's the same style as the Grant French Arm Chopper.

Hope this helps.

Keep it up and your gonna beat the Pendragons with the trunk. You need another assistant to help the young lady lock up and raise the curtain while she gets on the trunk. Other than that, good job.
