A tiny angel whispered in my ear that a brand-new effect is now available for pre-order.
I had the pleasure to perform the effect at Magic-Con for Blaine, Mahdi, and some other magicians from TheSecondDeal.com
Think you guys are going to love it. Matt Mello is truly a genius...
Here's the demo:

I've bene in love with Twilight Angels since it first came out. No online demos back then. Read the ad, order it and wasn't sure how would play for people. Well, anyone that has actually performed this for anyone will tell you the reactions are incredible. Do it for women or couples and they will keep the card and remember you forever.
I keep playing the WINGS demo over and over. That angel looks like it's wings are flapping.
OK, I'm in. This takes Twilight Angels to the next level as fas as I'm concerned. I already do the trick, so this is the cherry on top.

I'm a little conflicted by this. It feels like when a movie you love is reissued in a cleaned up version with added footage. Yeah, it's great, but you kind of prefer the simplicity of the original. I'll be curious to see if the gimmick is other than what it first looks like. If so, I might pick it up for sentimentality's sake, as "Twilight Angels" really is a fantastic effect.

I'm a huge T.A. fan but this doesn't really do anything for me. To each their own I guess.

I know first hand the power Twilight Angels has on people, so as soon as my shop has this in, I'm ordering.
The demo show the angel wings flapping. That takes the original plot to a new level. This part of the ad is what I'm excited about:
1) WINGS provides you with a fun, compelling emotional hook
( the original Twilight Angels does this, so this is true already ).
2) THREE distinct moments of astonishment: The wings ANIMATE..the angel VANISHES...the angel REAPPEARS next to its long lost angel buddy.
( The power of "three". Nuff said )

Just placed my order! Can't wait to get it! Is the original effect in one of the books Paul Harris put out? I have all 3.

He an an effect in the 2nd AOA book called "Twilight" but that was with coins appearing using a little mirror. Twilight Angels came out separately with the special cards needed.
Interestingly, It had a lukewarm reception when released. Anyone that didn't perform it, dismissed it ( no online demos back then ). Those that actually performed it for someone "got it".

I 'think" the original effect comes with two special cards. It's about $15. But, if you buy the full deck version for $20, it comes with 56 cards with two double backers and two bonus effects. The trick begs to have the cards signed and given away as 'souvenirs'.

Hi
I think this looks great. The only problem is I'm to cheap to let them sign the card.
Paul's website says "full decks of twilight angel cards are available from your dealer". How much does one of these decks cost ?

Hey Clarke,
I just got an email from paulharrispresents.com that said they would be shipping in less than a week!
Ralph,
Full decks of Twilight Angel cards are available for $20, but you can also do a version where the spectator signs a regular card, you do the flapping with it, and then give them that card to keep (minus t.a. sequence)Still very powerful!

Can this be done with a regular Bicycle deck or does it have to be done with a Mandolin deck? Also, how does the set-up for the effect affect using your deck for other effects? Thanks!

Mandolin only on these, due to USPC rules against altering trademarks, such as the Rider Back design

Hey Exitmat,
The Wings gimmick and TA cards are both printed on Mandolin. The wings are a bit larger on the Mandolin cards, so it makes the animation a little more visual. But with just a little distance, a spectator won't notice a difference if you use the Mandolin gimmicks along with your Rider Back deck. They look exactly the same to laymen.
As for setup, the gimmick can either be left in the box and added after, or can stay in the deck while performing other card tricks.
Hope that helps!

How about color options? We can choose the color for the gimmick or the gimmick is universal?

I like it, but I always wonder about the usefulness, not sure of that's even the right word, maybe playability, of magic that occurs on such a small scale/frame.

Failed Magician,
You'll have the option of choosing if you want red or blue at purchase. This will include the color of your Wings gaff, a deck of Mandolins, and 6 TA Cards of the same color.
gdw,
I can assure you people can easily see the animation happening even at a distance, and will either react strongly to it or just kind of stare at it dumbfounded--rapid blinking typically ensues as well! Then you knock them for two more with the TA card! Which includes handlings without a mirror (but the original TA can still be used seamlessly with Wings)

So, you take the card off the deck, the angel flaps it's wings, then you replace it on the deck to go into TA?

Hey Woodfield,
Yes, that's the sequence in most of the versions, with the exceptions of the PH super easy no "DL" handlings.

I got really excited about this. Years ago, I saw a trick which worked like the floating match card gimmick, but the angel floated of the back of the card. Never found out who made it or whether it was released commercially.....I thought this was that effect. Alas no. However I still think this looks amazing.

I have found Twilight Angels done best for couples, having the angels represent them and then they join together forever. It can be a very emotional, hard hitting effect. In that case, you have to let them keep the signed card.
What better addition could there to an already incredible effect than to have the angel animate and take flight. For those that have never done the original Twilight Angels, be prepared for stunned silence. Fight the urge to speak at that time. Let them savor the state they are in.

Hey Paul,
Sorry Wings isn't the effect you thought it was, but I'm glad you still enjoyed it! Paul Harris mentioned the floating angel was by Dean Dill, but I don't think it's available.

Thanks Matt. I heard something sImilar too. Think Jamie schoolcraft may have made it. I think this looks like a beautiful effect and I loved ta so adding more to an already great routine seems logical.
