An Amazing Classic Brought to Life!

The Whispering Buddha is one of the greatest and strangest classics in magic. Greatest because of its simple and direct effect, yet strange because probably no one has actually performed it!

That’s about to change. Fifteen years ago, Docc Hilford developed a workable method with his friend the late German mentalist, Punx. The result was a routine that maintained the clean directness of the original effect and made performance easy on the entertainer.

The mage shows a beautiful 5 inch, antique statue of the BUDDHA from Thailand. A participant writes a wish, a person and a location where they could both enjoy the wish on a prayer paper. They also think of a question and writes it on the paper. The prayer paper is burned and in a whisper the idol discloses the wish, the person’s name, the destination of joy and answers the personal question. THE SPECTATOR HEARS THE WHISPERS!

In the 1920s, Joe Ovette marketed the effect that was subsequently published in Corinda’s Thirteen Steps to Mentalism. In that version, the method was simple; you read the lips of the participant when she whispered her question to the statue! Simple, however near impossible to accomplish.

Docc’s Whispering Buddha utilizes some methods that YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW. The classic method of the famed CT has been blended with another technique and disguised by the genius of Punx. The improvement lets information be written all OVER THE PAPER! In addition, the paper is designed with Buddhist themed art rich for patter possibilities.

The REAL secret is an advanced waking hypnosis and NLP technique that makes the spectator ACTUALLY HEAR THE WHISPERS! That’s right!

How rare are simple, direct tricks that completely baffle magicians with clever methods while emotionally affecting an audience? This is one of those rare gems. A true reputation maker.

Here’s what you get:

2 templates for printing the special papers
Scripted story and instructions
Access to the live Doccinar
MP4 audio video recording of the Doccinar
MP3 audio recording of the Doccinar
Full color fully updated Whispering Buddha e-manuscript

The most intensive Doccinar yet. A double dose of Docc’s special magic – two full hours. The Doccinar will be filmed on May 3, 2012 and available for replay shortly after.

So the little statue doesn't come with the package, just the instructions?

Probably not, but they are not hard to find. You could also substitute any statue. For example, you could use an angel
statue to represent their guardian angel or you could go a more Bizzare route and use a skull. Limited only by your imagination.

Go to Amazon.com and type "Buddha statue" and you will have plenty to choose from. The statue is normal statue. Use what pleases you and your audience.

I am very excited about this one, after reading the book front to back twice, I know there are going to only be a few people using this to it's full potential if at all. This is an incredible little piece and obviously way way ahead of it's time (despite being based on a literally ancient phenomena).

In case you are wondering; this is not the "Buddha" from thirteen steps.

I'm stoked for this one.

I've purchased a few of the Doccinars and I've not been disappointed once. His teaching and ideas are like little gold nuggets.

Looking forward to this one.

I'm very excited about this, and even more excited about the e-mail sent out yesterday (I'm not telling what it is, if you want to know you have to sign up for the e-mails!). That is something that I had literally consoled myself that I just wouldn't ever be able to learn. Hopefully I'll be able to catch it live, if not then hopefully I'll still be able to get in on the deal.

I have a pretty nice stoneware buddha sitting around somewhere contemplating it's navel.
I also have a really nice 5" stone carving of Thor and a couple of articulated carved african dolls, I'm thinking about how these would fit.
It also crossed my mind that for certain audiences, and certain performances, a statue of Ganesha (there are some shiny gilded statues that mystically call out my name each time I pass by the shop window) could be used in conjunction with teaching Lon Milo Duquettes "pop goes ganesha" meditation/mantra from his book "Low Magick" (that's not a mentalism book btw).

I have a Cthulhu Bobble Head.

Only problem is, if they hear his whisper, they will probably go mad.

Okay, okay, no whispering Cthulhu bobble heads!
I had one more thought that might be a little too real, ...we'll see.

It was a great Doccinar though.

My mention of Cthulhu was not to be taken seriously (or was it?).

I really enjoyed the Doccinar and it has given me some ideas.

Even a nearly completely deaf person like me can now hear the whispers, but what are the voices telling me to do?
To sign up for the next Doccinar, that's what. Docc is an evil, evil man!

We are so privileged that Docc is choosing to tip the REAL WORK on so many of his pet creations. These aren't just quick re-hashings of what's already in the booklets. Docc goes into great detail on these Doccinars. Each Doccinar I've attended has given even more ideas than just the one he is teaching.

At a time when more and more creators are limiting how much they reveal to the community, we need to bow towards Miami and give Docc a huge mental 'Gracias'!

What is interesting to me is how each Doccinar feeds the next one. Each we do one we come up with a list of things to further elaborate on.

Thanks everyone for the good words. I'll pass them on to Docc who is out of pocket for the time being.
