Chaz,
Just as an FYI, I was watching Richard Osterlind's Easy to Master Mental Miracles Vol. 1 this morning, and he has a drawing dupe and book test in it.

Took me a long time to realise that how you get there is where the real mentalism is...

Is anyone using Corindas map effect? In theory I really like this effect, I just can't see how I'd routine it. It seems like it could play really big though.

I believe Richard Osterlind performed and explained this on his Corinda DVDs. Not sure which DVD it is on, but it did play well.

I was thinking about it last night. This and a couple other effects could be used to do an interesting murder mystery type show. Backstory could be something like in the 1800s there was a case of an odd murder and the police had no leads. Being desperate they hired a psychic who promised to be able to help them solve the case. Then it goes on to a clue like game. By the time the map effect comes in, I could explain that the participant is to play the role of the psychic and they are to pin point the exact location of the murderer... or something.

After more thought I realized there are two effects that I absolutely love, and really don't get a chance to do because I'm usually doing 1 on 1 stuff. Those effects are the chair test, and the dart card selection (participant throws a dart at a corkboard with cards on it backs facing them). I want to use the big wig/s present in an effect for sure, and I want to end on a big note. I figure I could do the chair test as the pre-closer and then the dart board effect as the closer. Have the boss join me on stage, patter about free will/coincidence/suggestion etc and offer to end with one last demonstration to leave them wondering. Hand them a dart and have them throw it anywhere on the board and hit a card. Instead of just doing the reveal here though, I like the idea of kind of milking it... so as soon as I know what the card is I'd have the participant look at it, memorize it and project it to me. As I say for example "It's a red card yes?" I get visibly more excited until I reveal the card. Even after the reveal my excitement stays up and I explain that I'm happy that it worked because I made a prediction, that had been on display the entire time. In a sealed envelope is a letter which the participant reads along with me, predicting the card they would have chosen.
Obviously there are numerous ways to achieve this, and I have my ideas in mind. What do you guys think though, would this make a good closer or do I need to think bigger?

Chaz,
I think your doing what I did for my first paid mentalism gig, that's OVER thinking it! I would recomend picking a few sure fire effects that you know well and present them to the best of your ability. Have a loose script and have fun.
I read a great article by Greg Wilson awhile back about overthinking scripts that go out the window. To paraphrase Mr. Wilson, don't over work a script becuse it will sound like a script, just be yourself and have fun...the script will formulate organically during shows. Perhaps this sounds like amature advice as most would tell you to rehearse until you have your lines memorized like the back of you hand. I find this folly, but then again...maybe Im just lazy
Respect,
Billy

Billy - I think you may be right on the over-thinking part. I haven't been thinking about much else lately, and I tend to over think/analyse what I do pretty regularly. Hmm, perhaops a few days break to let my brain reset will good. Thanks for reminding me not to over do it!
And thanks to the rest of you all for the kind words and encouragement.
