Hi,
I was searching for an Aldo Colombini book and landed on llepub.com and found Close up magic of Aldo Colombini (ebook)listed for sale for less than $15. There are a total of 24 ebooks on the site including Impossibilia by John Bannon, Carneycopia, The Complete Cups & Balls Michael Ammar and more.
I checked the whois details of both the sites llpub.com and llepub.com and the site does appear to be legit. However, I found no reference on llpub.com about llepub.com. Also the format of the ebooks is unknown though the Adobe Acrobat logo on the site indicates pdf format.
I did run a search on the Café before creating this thread and apologize in advance if this has already been posted or discussed here.
Regards,
octave

I would stay away until I contacted LLpub and aske them about it. I apoligize if I'm wrong, but I am suspicious about this web site. I'm not sure why they would create a completely separate web site which does not show up on a normal google search for llpub. I would have assumed they would have advertised this if they were planning to release e-books as well, and I have not heard anything about it.
Probably the easiest thing to do would be to contact LLpub directly.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, it looks like the cat's out of the bag.
The official launch of L&L Publishing's new e-book site (www.llepub.com) is still a week or two away as we prepare the remaining titles for download. However, everything is live right now and the books that are on the site (24 as of this writing; there will be 50 plus titles by the official launch) are available to download right away. All books are in .PDF format and are fully searchable.
We'll be making the official announcement in the coming weeks in addition to sending out an e-mail blast. In the meantime, gentlemen (and ladies)...start your downloads.

I'm sorry I wasn't aware that this was a soft launch and didn't mean to spoil the official one. I found the link this afternoon and wanted to share with everyone in the Café. I'm happy Paypal is accepted as a mode of payment.

Not a problem. In fact, we sold a book last week to someone else who discovered the site via Google.
We're working very hard right now to make sure that just about every title that was ever printed under the L&L banner will be offered electronically. This, of course, means that a number of books that have been out of print for some time will once again be available to the community.
We're very excited!

It's nice to finally see an offering great books at great prices.
Hopefully this will filter down to other sellers.

I just sign up, bought and downloaded Spectacles by Stephen Minch, price is $14.95. I wanted the book in ebook format so I can read it on my IPAD.
It is 30% ($8) lower than Penguin for a hardcopy, not a lot of a difference, but if you want the ebook better getting in this way.
It is a PDF file, and at first glance looks like a very good scan of the book's pages because of the typography , not an original PDF file, but I could be wrong because I don't have the original book to compare.
The sign up, purchase and download process was very fast and efficient, I paid through paypal which I believe is the only option, your ebook is kept in your "my account" that it is convenient.
So far there are 27 titles, some of them not available in hardcopy any longer.
I am please with the purchase.
I will post a review of the content in the next weeks

Has anyone else had problems with the download link? I ordered and paid but did not receive a download link. I'm a bit annoyed as I was expecting the ebook as an instant download.
I've contacted customer service and I'm currently awaiting a reply. I'll post the outcome when it transpires.

Hi pabloinus, yes indeed I did, there was no link there. However, Steve from L&L saw my post here, responded via email and has sorted it out.
I'm very happy that L&L are making these great books available in this fashion. I'm happy with the way Steve handled things and sorted out the problem for me.
A slightly unsettling thing is that I don't have my private email address available anywhere here on the Café (except it was provided when I registered) and my user name here is my stage name. Therefore I'm a little bemused as to how someone could respond to my post here by emailing me at an undisclosed email address which is under a different name. I'm hoping that my private details weren't made available by Café staff.
Outside of that, I'm happy with the customer service I received and I am looking forward to seeing the L&L catalogue grow.

I was happy to see that "The Close Up Magic of Aldo Colombini" is available again. It's been out of print for a long time, and there's some very good work in that one. It's almost impossible to find one for sale in hard cover, and they're expensive when you do find one.
These eBooks are a great move on L&L's part.

Mr. Jorgenson is too modest to mention that he did all of the illustrations in the Colombini book and his work is simply terrific.

You shouldn't have said that, Jim. Now we know Tom would sing the book's praises regardless of its quality.

It's true I'd sell out for a lukewarm beer, but that book had some good stuff in it. I loved the rubber band work, and the ring and rope stuff was very nice, too. The Ebook thing is a great way to reissue OOPs without worrying if the sales would warrent the printing invenstment. Win-Win for all. This is a great move on L&L's part.

It's great to see many of the out-of-print books coming back as ebook. Perhaps MINT Vol. 1.

I have the same issue. I just bought "The Card Magic of Nick Trost", but after clicking the link once on my iPad, which wouldn't download it, it disappeared. As of now, I've not been able to read the ebook, which is quite upsetting. Is there any way to download it again (without buying it again, which would be silly)
I am also currently awaiting a reply from customer service..

It's a great alternative to the physical books that are out of print and much more economical for the publisher too! I have purchased several and the quality on the whole is excellent. However the book by Michael Skninner - Classic Sampler - needs a bit of work on the photographs. They are rather grainy and wondering if the originals in the book are similar?
Looking forward to new releases in the near future. Keep up the great work L and L!

I have the Skinner book and the photographs are fine. A little flat. Grain is an issue your going to have with downloadable files that have photography. Illustrated magic books are much less of a problem. It's one of the big reasons I still prefer printed books. If they're no longer available then the ebook is good alternative.

Thanks motown for your comparison between the photos in the physical book and the ebook. Actually its not a complaint but just an observation on my part. As you said, for those out of print books, these ebooks are a great alternative! I have purchased the Al Schneider book, the Nick Trost, 2 by Michael Ammar (his original book and the one on Cups and Balls), Classic Sampler, The book by the (then-young) Michael Kaminskas (great debut book called Miracle Material)and Louis Falanga's great little book 'Lake Tahoe Magic' I have most of these in print version, but to be able to carry them around on my tablet is too great to resist!!!

But a caveat - they come with limited amount of downloads (sometimes only 1) and if you make a mistake - or try to download to iPad - you've wasted it and need to contact L and L. As noted, Steve does a great job, so Cameron, you wont have to wait long! What I do is to download to my computer and then email the pdf to myself. Then I can open the email on iPAd and using a software (mine is PDF Reader) I can store it and read it on my tablet! Takes a few extra steps, but its safe and effective!

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback AND patience as we launch this new site.
The site hasn't officially launched and we were surprised that Google picked up on it and the first orders starting coming in. There are still more titles that have to be entered and several bugs worked out.
The biggest issue, which was confirmed this morning, is downloading on iPads. It turns out that iOS doesn't know what to do with Zip files, which is how the books are set up. So if you tried downloading on your iPad, it's the zip file that messed up the download for you. Today we're going in and changing those files so they're not zipped and you can download your purchase directly to your iPad. This should be completed by the end of the day.
Regarding the quality of the PDFs, specifically the photos in some of them, much of that has to do with having these ebooks at a reasonable files size. If the quality were greatly improved then there would be a significant increase in the file size. For example The Al Schneider book would almost be 1 gb!
If you ever have a problem here are two email addresses: support@llpub.com & llpublishing@gmail.com. Those are the only two email addresses that will get you the quickest help (and your file if you haven't gotten it).
Thanks!
