I actually have the reprint of the manual John Mulholland wrote for the CIA, so I'm having a hard time understanding where this sudden animosity for magicians is coming from.

They see Magicians at the same level as Clowns.
Not that there is anything wrong with Clowns, mind you...
But we're "Kid's Birthday Party" material to them.
"What! 3 thousand bucks for a MAGICIAN!?"
Seriously.
They will not complain much if it was a Singer or Actor or MC/Host.
Sad state of affairs really...
