So, where's the new bandwagon to jump on?

What does it matter? It is "climate change" now so no matter what happens it is our fault. Please try to keep up.

And we're getting beyond "climate change" to "climate chaos" now. You don't even need a trend anymore . . .

Thanks for posting some apolitical fact based info. But I doubt it will help those who choose to ignore science.

I think you ought to look at the video Payne posted and see what real scientists say. It is clearly the deniers who are making things up and misstating and ignoring facts.

Are you really saying there is some kind of international conspiracy between 90 percent of the world's climate scientists?

Maybe I misunderstood you. When you wrote: "Or make it up and ignore what is inconvenient," I thought, perhaps mistakenly, that you were referring to the 90 percent majority of climate scientists as the ones who were making things up. If I was wrong, I stand corrected and apologize.

I am specifically refering to Al Gore. Indirectly to those on BOTH SIDES who have made it a political debate and not a scientific one.

It was either Bush Sr or Reagan who was running the show when I was in grade school. We had assemblies with an awesome robot who told us to "reeeee-cycle-ycle-ycle!" Man robots were all over the place in the 80's. School assemblies, Rocky IV... Where'd all the robots go?

Quote:
In the scientific field of climate studies – which is informed by many different disciplines – the consensus is demonstrated by the number of scientists who have stopped arguing about what is causing climate change – and that’s nearly all of them. A survey of all peer-reviewed abstracts on the subject 'global climate change' published between 1993 and 2003 shows that not a single paper rejected the consensus position that global warming is man caused. 75% of the papers agreed with the consensus position while 25% made no comment either way, focusing on methods or paleoclimate analysis (Oreskes 2004).

Several subsequent studies confirm that “...the debate on the authenticity of global warming and the role played by human activity is largely nonexistent among those who understand the nuances and scientific basis of long-term climate processes”. (Doran 2009). In other words, more than 95% of scientists working in the disciplines contributing to studies of our climate, accept that climate change is almost certainly being caused by human activities.

We should also consider official scientific bodies and what they think about climate change. There are no national or major scientific institutions anywhere in the world that dispute the theory of anthropogenic climate change. Not one.

In the field of climate science, the consensus is unequivocal: human activities are causing climate change.

Oh Santa, you are definately for it! It's a great tool to distribute wealth to pooror nations and as a newby liberal, you should realize that anything that will help distribute wealth, you are for! And even though 99.9874% of actual scientists said that by now we would be beyond the tipping point, don't let that bother you one bit, k?

You must acquire the "Liberal Manual". However you must earn it by getting liberal points. You must publicly endorce gay marriage, and abortion but also condone adoption by same sex parents. These are just a few of the more well known point getters, there are many more but I cannot list them all.

Also if you demonstrate at any of the "occupy thingys" you also get points. At these gatherings just ask the people participating and they will guide you toward your goal of becoming a real honest to goodness liberal. Not sure how many points one needs for one of these manuals but in the meantime if Bush or Regan were for it you are aganist it. That should work until you get the manual. I am not sure if you are allowed to have a job but if you do, you have to despise your employer for making a profit.

Hope this helps.

IMHO the pertinent questions are:
if the climate is changing - what is possible to do given what we know now?
what does that mean for us here, and what about the other 9/10 people in the world?
what would it take for those other 9/10 people in the world to go along with whatever the plan is?

The politics of environmental scare were pretty much* covered by the Crichton book a while ago. What's new?

* he may have left out the "end of the world as planned" agenda and those who would see it happen rather than avoided - and so interfere with implementation of plans.

Or you can ignore the uninformed sarcasm and just go by the standard definition:

Quote:
Social liberalism is the belief that liberalism should include social justice. It differs from classical liberalism in that it believes the legitimate role of the state includes addressing economic and social issues such as unemployment, health care, and education while simultaneously expanding civil rights. Under social liberalism, the good of the community is viewed as harmonious with the freedom of the individual. Social liberal policies have been widely adopted in much of the capitalist world, particularly following World War II.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_liberalism

Conservatives are those who don't believe in such things. You have to decide for yourself what you are.

Underneath the hobby horses and grandstanding are some real issues.
Then again, who wants to address real issues when they can argue about what's "right" on the internet?

You'll find my modest proposal of a plan posted on the Café a few years ago. What do you have that's better?
