Go to the Google Search Engine, type in Klamm Magic Linking Rings, you will see a heading that reads The Magic Café Forums. Then after you have read those post, type in the Google Search Engine Klamm Magic Locking Key Ring. Again read the topics offered on The Magic Café Forums headings.

This has been discussed many times, it all depends how strong your fingers are to work the locking key. There is no need for a locking key, but if you want one this is as good as any. These rings are of good quality and will do the job for a performer that is willing to put the work into a good routine.

A good performer sees no need for a locking key as it usually only gets in the way of the process and slows down the routine.

Klamm's rings are better then the standard rings being offered on the market that are imports.

Thank you - I didn't know how to find older posts.

That helped a lot but raised this question that I didn't see addressed: What are the advantages of a locking ring?

Don't feel bad, the search engine on the Café is not much good. You have to select topic, but as in this case, there are at least 4 different topics to search. Google is better, at least you will find something that will lead to something.

As far as I can see there are no advantages to a Locking Key Ring. If you can master one, then maybe fooling other magicians, may be an advantage if you are a magician's magician.

I use a mag locking ring & for two seconds, in my entire routine, my hand is removed allowing the audience see the "solid ring"

I carry two sets of rings, one for each size party show. the smaller set does not lock - the one for the larger show does. Both routines are identical The audience doesn't miss the part where my hand is removed (using the non-locking ring)... so in my case, I'm doing it for myself.

In the case of someone using fewer rings and lots of displays, a locking ring makes sense. Fewer rings, slower moves, stopping so the audience can appreciate the impossible - punctuated with showing complete whole rings, that makes sense. IMO

I highly recommend Levent's 'Ultimate Guide to the Linking Rings' DVD set. It has a section on locking keys, as well as routines which uses locking keys

The first linking action in my routine is a chain of 3. Key links the other two rings at once, the the chain is displayed. At this point, all 3 rings can be seen openly (m-key). The display lasts a few seconds, then the routine continues and the key is not locked anymore. I like to be able to display the first rings openly because the audience is watching the rings closely at the start. It took a while to find the ring combination of moves to perform the locking action easily and smoothly with one hand, and of course, unlocking the m-key is a breeze.

Rolf and Pete, thanks. this gives me some great information to make an informed decision bout whether or not to venture into a locking ring. So Pete, is there a special magicians poor house where I can live after I spend my meager life savings on all the cool stuff I keep finding. Everytime I think I'm saturated with all the magic knowledge I could possibly hold, I find out how little I actually have absorbed compared to what's out there. Your website is fabulous for this old sponge. thanks again guys. I just keep learning. jeff

I looked at the Porper ring and prices. Magicians poor house indeed. Maybe I could trade some grandchildren.

I bought both a Quantum-Q LK and a Regular Type. I am pleased to admit that I have used the Lk in every show. I find I can lock and unlock it quickly and easily with one hand whilst making larger movements. I must confess that this is probably more for my pleasure than that of the audience but I do enjoy the freedom of being able to do more open displays and long one-handed chains.

Also, would like to add that after some confusion with my order, Klamm Magic were absolute gentlemen to deal with and I recommend them unashamedly.

The folks at Klamm are wonderful. I broke one of my 12" rings, and they sent me a new one - no charge. They even paid the postage.

I sold my Quantum linking ring. I found that it really didn't add anything to the routine. It's possible that the locking ring can even be handed out briefly for examination, but to me it just slows up the routine. Don't even consider a locking ring until you've mastered the normal key.
