45 year old here. Returning to the magic scene because I own a Great Clips franchise and perform for kiddos waiting for haircuts! When I was in my teens, I did tons of stage shows - had the abbots super x levitation, 4dove vanishing cage custom made by abbots, a duck production box - the whole nine yards!

Back in that day, Abbott and Lou Tannen were the major suppliers - each of which had an annual convention. I had a massive catalog from each of them

I would love for some of you old timers to catch me up on the goings on of the last 30 years in a few paragraphs.

I live the close up stuff for my customers- pencil thru 50 cent piece, vanishing scarf (thumb tip), color changing knives. But by far the best is the 3 coin routine with the English penny, centavo, and 50 cent piece.

Please feel free to suggest any other "quick and dirty" things I need in my bag of tricks!

Welcome HuskerMagic,

Sounds like a great way to keep the kids well behaved and to get them to request your shop.

Welcome to the Café. Sounds like I go to the wrong barber shop - what a great location to use some magic!

Howdy from Dallas. Where in our great state are you? (We have some great magic clubs here including the Texas Association of Magicians --TAOM-- which holds an annual convention over Labor Day...this year it is in Houston.)

Welcome to the awesome Magic Café! I will tell you a great close up trick to learn and that is David Roth's version of coins across. Requires a great deal of practice but is worth it. You can find it on one of his Ultimate Coin Magic DVDs. I perform Roth's version of coins across all the time and it kills (and I perform it using quarters rather than half dollars, I prefer quarters because everybody commonly carry quarters in their pocket as part of their spare change, a bit unusual to see half dollars these days though they are still in circulation). Takes more practice to learn how to do it using quarters but you can master this trick performing it with quarters and do it smoothly and naturally without any hassle, but again, does take a bit more practice.
