All,
Next month I am going to be on a local radio station to do a few mental effects. I have decided to just start with card calling (exciting, I know). However, I have a question...I assume that the listening audience should get excited via the hosts excitment, am I wrong?
For example, I know that the host will be amazed (humble, I know) but will this translate to the audience, or do I (should I) involve them more directly?
I am hoping that Slim King reads this and is willing to impart some sage advice

Ask the person or other person in the room to describe what is happening so that the audience can experience the moment also.

Billy .... I have several good effects that can be used on BOTH the Radio Host and the Listening Audience at the same time ... Wouldn't you rather do something like that? Otherwise you are at the mercy of the DJ.

Good advice.
A few more tips:
-Keep your routine(s) clear and quick and have a few more things ready to go, in the event that they ask you for more.
-Realize what the audience is doing and what they are not in a position to do (writing things down, getting a deck of cards, etc.) In morning drive, most listeners are getting ready for their work day or in a car. In PM Drive, the vast majority are in a car (and the majority of them are behind the wheel). Complicated routines or effects using math calculations are no longer viable.
-Use the radio hosts personalities and interests wherever possible. At the risk of generalizing, on-air performers have healthy egos and this is a thing you can exploit. The more you support their agenda, the better the guest you are
- Above all, remember that radio is theatre of the mind. It's perfect for the RIGHT kind of Mentalism.

Listen to the show ahead of time to get a sense of the style of the hosts and how much 'room' they give their guests.

Shur you can get away with absolute murder on the radio. You tell the audience what you want them to hear. Take control over the DJ if possible. I've done stuff on national radio and regional radio and always goes down pretty well. Here's a link to one of the performances :

Billy- one : Everytime I've been on the radio I've just played the various hosts in the studio and let the audience at home feed off their reaction. I've heard Keith Barry ( huge mind-reader personality here) on the radio and he usually gets people to phone in and use the various/usual techniques to predict their thoughts or read their mind. He does it very well. With radio you create the reality and you can ask the host leading question that will verify what your saying. Card calling sounds great though don't be afraid to use ***show too if you meet the host beforehand. Anyways best of luck!

When in the studio DR is always a great way to intensify the response of the listening audience.... It is also good to utilize the hosts natural inclinations. It is better to use your Internet research to discover what kind of a person the DJ is rather than some personal tidbit .... Knowing if he is left or right handed is a treasure trove !!!!

I stole most of my stuff from Jack Galloway but he can no longer defend himself from my Pirating ways. I will be trying to wake Jack from his stuper to get the "REAL WORK" materials out to the believers. All others get Nothing. IF YOU HAVE "SOMETHING" AND WANT TO CASH IN ... NOW IS THE TIME.
