I saw it Scott. Sort of a strange act he had.
90 seconds of pure laughs without a standing ovation!

He was just a goof. Everyone seemed disappointed that they didn't get to see some real stage magic (I know I was). Stern does love magic and has always enjoyed their past performances on AGT.

He was talking about our segment on AGT a few years ago on his show. I tried to get a sound byte of it, but kept running into dead ends. I eventually gave up on it. You are right though, he is a big fan of magic.

Here's his website and the AGT YouTube Clip.
I'm so peeved he ripped off my act!
Seriously though... It's like they have meetings to come up with new and inventive ways to make magic look more idiotic...

His use of the ring flight was painfully obvious.....and why would you do a ring effect like that for a crowd of thousands? 90% can't even see the ring. That's about as pointless as someone doing a needle swallowing routine, or a card manipulation act on this show. Yeah, they may look cool in your parlor act....but if the audience can't see what you are doing you need to learn a bit more about being a performer/entertainer/and a magician. Just another in a series of pretty stupid choices by magicians on this show.
I just realized I put a horrible pun in there.....hahahahahahaha.

Well, Houdini did the neddle trick on the stage of the Hippidrome which was the largest stage in the world at the time. Without any video screens.

Well the guy who did the needle swallowing trick on AGT was boo'd off the stage and was X'd by all the judges, as well as did the guy who did card manipulation tricks.
I think it is not fair to Houdini to compare him to magicians today. Plus the audiences of 100 years ago were nothing like the audiences of today when it comes to magic. Look at Houdini's performance of metamorphosis v.s. todays standard performance.

Its for TV. The audiences are secondary to this particular type show. I do understand being on stage and performing for a regular type audience and all but for this show, IMO, close up can be successful as along as the TV viewers know what is going on.
This guy is more of a comedian according to his website. He got a lot of air time, that is for sure. I do not think his potential clients will check on the Café before hiring him.

Wow! The craziest biography to put on a proffesional website. Why his future clients need to know details from his private life? Its out of my comprehension...

Which is the reason I'd never even think about appearing on AGT. Nothing I do is under eight minutes. Nor made for the 10 second attention span American television producers seem to think the typical television viewer has.
I wouldn't get more than 30 seconds into this routine before I'd be buzzed off.

I see your point Payne and why performing on this show is such a challenge for magicians and especially for mentalists. Its like having a stop watch started when you begin.

That is why I feel magicians should know how to choose where to perform and not "prostitude" ourselfs.
We should always do research before a show to see what type of show, venue and audience we are performing for, and it is then important to know what type of magic to choose.
Like Payne said his act will never last on AGT even though it being a great act. That is why I am sure you will never put yourself in that situation.
Other guys like Hans Klok's magic again should do realy well in these type of shows. We all make our own choices and there are different venues for different magicians.

I also would not put myself in a situation where producers can alter my performance. There have been instances of magicians on AGT having their performances edited to make it look as if they were voted off the stage when in fact they had received a tremendous response from both the audience and the judges. There have been other times where the magicians seemingly poor choice of material was actually suggested or encouraged by the producers against the better judgment of the performer. But the lure of getting to be on national television clouded their judgment. I have better thing to do than to be made to look like a buffoon by television executives desperately seeking ratings. When I play the buffoon I'll do it under my terms, not theirs.

Very few performers are actually aired on TV. They have too many acts and so little actual air time to put them on. How many magicians have been on so far? I think only 2 if I am correct.
