Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Steven and I am 34 years of age from Shreveport, Louisiana.
I have been doing magic (mostly card effects) since the age of 12 when I was taught my first card trick by my Grandmother. After I practiced the effect for about 15 minutes I performed it for other family members and a few friends, their reactions made me feel unlike I have ever felt and thus began my love affair with the art.
I had my Mother take me to the nearest bookstore the very next day where I found several books that taught self-working effects and very basic sleights such as the Glide. It was all my parents could do to get me to finish homework once I started studying those books, I was absolutely obsessed with learning and practicing magic.
I ventured out and starting working with coins and other things, but cards and mentalism was and still is my favorite styles of magic to preform.
I consider myself an amateur Magician even though I have been doing magic for about 20 years in some fashion because while I know more than your average dabbler/hobbyist and perform some really great material, I have never taken it further than doing walk around's at clubs, restaurants, on the streets and volunteering for parties, and other small venues.
I've never really branched out beyond that, however, I am wanting to take that step forward now at this point. And that is why I'm here at the Magic Café.
Looking forward to speaking with you.
-Steven

Welcome HaveOuts,
You don't have to think that the only destination in Magic is to become a pro. Most of the Magicians here are not professionals.
We love Magic and we try to do the art justice and pass the love on.
Your Grandmother was probably not a Pro. but she passed the Magic on.
I'm so glad you told the story of your Grandmothers gift to you. We hear about Fathers, Grandfathers and Uncles but I've never heard of a grandmother in this context. May your story be the first of many in the future as women become a larger part of out "fraternity" (apparently we'll have to change some terms).
