Hi guys,

Recently I just bought some Magical Morgans from Joe Mogar - which by the way, are amazing!!

I also purchased his Pocket Pal, a magnetic back-pocket holdout.

I'm having so much fun with this, basically I have just been experimenting with ways to vanish a coin completely, focusing attention on the other hand while the dirty hand ditches the coin onto the holdout. Then afterwards the same process reversed to retrieve and produce the coin.

Are there any books/DVDs/ideas published (or even, ideas which you may have) on using such a holdout effectively?

Thanks a lot!

Tanay

David Neighbors is an expert. He showed us a few things in Spokane. We are currently editing video we'll be releasing on DVD, to be announced here on the Magic Café.

Meanwhile, you can PM David AND he may pop up here to chime in.

I remember he effectively used body movement when using a mag holdout.

Don't rush the ditch. Look in Bobo for some hooked coin ideas. Some of the routines can be altered for a back pocket holdout. Be sure to come back and share your results. Good luck!

You might want to look into Vic Trabucco's holdout, same concept, very clever, and some good moves taught.

John Bannon in one of his books, I think Smoke and Mirrors, uses what he calls and I/O (Input/Output) holdout. It's not magnetic but the same idea can be applied to the pocket pal.

Michael,
Regarding the Trabucco holdout: I was reading the article you have posted on the New York Coin Magic Seminar website about the 2008 NYCM seminar:

http://www.newyorkcoinmagic.net/M210_Coin_Seminar.pdf

It mentions Vic Trabucco's performance, and the holdout, pg. 48, middle column, 3rd paragraph).

I was curious if his use of the holdout is shown in any of the NYCMS DVDs? I was reading the descriptions and couldn't find that specifically mentioned.

Thanks for your help with this, and for the wonderful set of NYCMS DVDs; what a great learning resource!

Um, Nothing is up my sleeve.

Like to suggest, I'd add a mag holdout to your arsenal but mix it up with some "old-fashion" holdout ideas (yes, referring to Bobo's).

Trabucco performs a trick not explained on the NYCMS dvd, that just might be using the holdout. It is in the bonus section on one of the volumes he appears in (sorry, don't have the dvds in front of me so I can't give you the number).

Or you might just holdout in plain sight via the Liwag Subtlety. I do it all the time.
