Okay, the search for Ike's wasn't as smooth as I had hoped. No luck at either bank - both said that they sometimes have them but they don't keep them or roll them so it's pretty much a crap shoot to walk in and find one - much less the five I was looking for.
After the second strike out at the bank I went to the coin shop and picked up five of them from the cheap Ike box ($1.40 each).
Now I'm trying to work out some of the moves that I was hoping would be easier with the larger coins - boy, oh boy, is a BP hard to do convincingly! Much work still required!
I am surprised how easy FP and CP and c---ps are with the larger coins. Oh, and very surprised how loud they are! Holy mackrel! I figure if I can get smooth and quiet with these coins I'll be in paradise when I finally get some soft, silver coins.
Thanks again for all the valuable input!

JD, I practice with dollars; do effects with half-dollars. Also working on doing some effects with dollars for more visibility and, IMO, I believe the spectators' perception is that coin magic with dollars is much more difficult. Of course the size of your hands and ease of handling also come into consideration.

Yea Good luck Trying to B.P. A Silver Dollar ! I have never been able to do it! That's one reason I use Half's for it! I mostly use F.P. When using the Bigger coins!

David, I was thinking that thw wider coin might fit better between the side of my index finger and pinky for the BP - and they do fit better, but I still have lots of work to do to make it look natural. I can do a c--p, but I've not been able to BP a half dollar - can't find the right two fingers...
FP is easy (even easier than I thought it might be) and CP is pretty easy. My son was pretty amazed that a Ramsey subtlety works very well even with a silver dollar.
Atom, do you find any difficulty with the transition between coins? It does make sense that if you practice with the larger coin and perform with the smaller that some things would be easier, but do you find that other things are harder?
I have pretty big mitts, so the size of the silver dollars isn't a problem - but sometimes working with quarters is a bit difficult for me. I have assumed that some of the difficulty switching from one coin size to another is based on familiarity more than size. Maybe it is a bit of both.

Hi JD, The whole transition with coin sizes depends on the size of your hands. Generally practicing sleights with dollars makes sleights with ALL the smaller coins easier for me. The two exceptions I have found are 1) the Muscle Pass and 2) Any BP are much easier with dollars. I try to learn routines using various coin sizes in case I borrow coins or prefer visibility with larger coins: also depending on how much I'm ENJOYING the sleights---how they actually feel in my hands. A nice Coins Across can use dollars, halves or quarters. Maybe it's more comfortable for your hands to use a particular size.
BTW, I KNOW why Mr. Neighbors uses Barbers: They are BUTTER. Try working on your knuck-buster moves with Kennedys (and their edges), get those moves down, then use Barbers. You won't believe how smooth they feel and it seems they just do the magic all on their own!

Good news...I was cleaning up and found a couple of old coins that I'd completely forgotten about. I took them to the coin shop in town and was able to trade those three coins for 3 Morgans.
The Ike's are still good for handling, but wow...smooth and quiet - I'm already liking these babies.

I like the feel of the Ike's, and Todd Lassen's new Ike gaffs are beautiful! And the Copper Walkers go perfectly with them for those gaffs!

I recently spent close to $300 to purchase a gaffed set of Walking Liberties from one of the top magic coin machinists. When I felt that the set needed further tweaking, the machinist complained that the set worked far better when made up in Morgans. If I had made the upgrade, it would have cost me an additional $200. Now a high earning professional magician or an affluent hobbyist might be able to justify spending $500 on a gaffed coin set, but on my low fixed income I can think of far better things to purchase with that kind of money.
