Can someone tell me what's the point of showing (picture) the complete instructions of a trick when selling it?
Maybe it's just me, but I don't like this kind of exposure... |

I think it's usually there to show that they're selling the effect with the original instructions and not a photocopy.

On the rare occasions when someone has done this (or shown a picture of the trick that exposes the gimmick), I've contacted the seller and they have graciously changed the picture.

Who's worried about exposure? I think that's unnecessary. As a potential buyer, I really DO want to see the entire instruction sheet shown.

To be honest I also don't have a problem with instructions showing, but they could do the effort to fold it so not everything is exposed.

The only ones looking close enough to realize they have exposed the secret are those of us looking to buy it anyway. So who cares?
But, having said that, you are right, they shouldn't. It would be my guess they simply have no appreciation for what they have done & clearly they don't read The Magic Café. |

I agree to show items as clearly as possible, but why not just blur the instructions so you can't make out the secret?

Now that's a new one.
Show the instructions but not the item. Very strange selling technique.

Unfortunately a lot of Magic tricks (and gimmicks) are exposed on public auction and selling sites
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIMMIKS-Assorted......45879c42 Sad indeed - especially knowing that these are ads by magicians who should know better!!! |

Well without the actual prop so what if someone knows, people who buys this stuff and see the listings are mostly magicians or collectors anyway.
Just like how there were knock off Tenyo items, they just jammed and never worked. What are the chances of laymen: 1) Saw your performance of a Tenyo item 2) Found out the name of the trick and that it was produced by Tenyo 3) Went on Ebay to hunt for it 4) Found the listing 5) The seller has scanned the instructions 6) He knows the secret 7) Comes to expose and heckle your show Stop worrying |
