I learned it when John released his book "IMPOSSIBILIA".
I have always loved this plot and there are some fantastic versions. From Vernon's original in the Stars Of Magic, to the many versions spawned from that.
For me, I think John Bannon's version is the most entertaining for an audience. They can see the 4 separate packets are riffled shuffled face up and face down. I've had people gasp, applaud and even laugh upon the ribbon spread revelation.
For those that perform it, do you use it as an opener or prefer to use the deck for another trick first? There are different schools of thought as to where it gets the most power.
I think as an opener, it establishes you your credibility. If you can do that, they'll get onboard the train and not doubt anything.

I like the idea of doing a regular triumph for the first spectator and then doing Bannon's version for the second.I'd use as a opener.

I always have a deck set up for this. I stack the cards exactly opposite and can use it for either BT or LMCT just in case...

I always combine Vernon's "Triumph" with "Bannon's Triumph". This is possibly the strongest card routine I do.
I usually close with this if I'm doing an all card routine. I don't think card magic gets any better than this.

I agree with Robert. I would not use this as an opener.

Completely agree! Card Magic does not get any better than this. These days I do Slop Shuffle Triumph and sometimes follow that with Bannon's Triumph. Or I'll save the Bannon routine to the end - it is very, very powerful! Maybe the best self-working trick with an ordinary deck of cards .

Triumph fans would be foolish to overlook Dani daOrtiz' version from his Utopia DVD set.
Johnny Thompson's handling on his DVD set is also well worth checking out for Vernon fans.

At the risk of offending some, I'll mention that the shuffling of the four packets with the flipping and flopping didn't fool me for a microsecond the first time that I saw Bannon's Triumph. (Perhaps this is because I'm an engineer who was better than average visualization skills.)
With that said, I've NEVER had any normal person question the face up/face down shuffling sequence. The ending is a surprise, and they never see it coming.

I think you're mistaking conviction for entertainment.

Anyone openly remove the suit cards for another trick first (like Diamond Cut Diamond)? If there was a middle trick - like triumph. 'Play it straight' triumph could work like a call back. ( this way the whole thing could be impromptu..)
Would a set like that be too obvious? Would the revelation of the suit cards seem magical or 'obviously' devious card handling?

Sorry, sohaib, I just got back to this. Yes, and can you see how LMCT is the perfect out in case the spec picks outside your desired range?
