That presentation suffered from all the pitfalls of the classic presentation of the Linking Finger Rings.
Roy Johnson and Geoffrey Durham Linking Finger Ring routine is superior to this and all the others. Roy and Geoffrey have one of the ring lenders on stage with them, and they handle the rings and they link in the spectator's hands.
Congratulations, Lu Chen for your award.

I would like to agree with you. Many of us in the audience including
Max Maven and Jamy Ian Swiss questioned his selection of this routine
for performance, at this event, as the winner of the evening's top award.
I posted this online mostly for historical purposes. To my knowledge it is the
only recording of the performance that exists. I thanked Lu Chen for allowing
me, to both record and post this video.

A perfectly beautiful effect, I would say, but not really suitable for such a big room. Magic that happens in your hands like this (or in the spectators hands, wmhegbli) with small items like finger rings seems better for an intimate performance. I have seen any number of performers doing what are essentially close-up effects as stage magic (including Copperfield, Burton, and others) and making use of large video screens as Lu Chen does here. For me, it loses something in the process. Not always, but often.

I would guess he used it due to traveling from China, keeping luggage small... and it IS his favorite routine.
I have seen Kreskin do this for a theater of 3,000 without big screen and get a standing ovation.
To be honest, I was thrilled to see him do the routine that Joe Porper, and I, created.
Yes, Johnson and Durham do have excellent routines, as does Nick Lewin. The first person I ever saw do it was Al Koran... who killed with it. And Bruce Cervon's was better in routining and audience handling than all of the above.

Pete, never heard of Bruce Cervon's Himber Linking Finger Ring routine. Is it in print or is it lost forever?
The only thing I have ever heard about Nick Lewin is when his version of the Gene Anderson Newspaper Tear was very poorly written up in Genii Magazine back in the 1970's. Ken Brooke raved about it and how funny and good Nick Lewin is. That is it, I guess he is just to busy doing Cruise Ship work to let the magic community hear about him. In the new PDF "Vanish" magazine their was mentioned as well.

Cervon's routine died with him. The ring was a standard but he used the Koran-style pen that I gave him the work on. His audience management in the Parlour at the Castle, where I SAW HIM, was the best. When that ring unlined and dropped into the spectator's hand right under his nose... was pure magic.
Lewin has just released his ROUTINE ONLY, at a very high price. Having seen him do it, it is one of the most entertaining, gag-filled fooler any pro would die for.

I had the pleasure of seeing Cervon perform his routine several times. Plus I was lucky enough to have him use me (and my ring) for the unlink from the pen during one of his performances at the Castle. What a magical moment! Truly masterful routining. I wonder if he ever had his routine filmed? It would really be too bad if such a perfectly choreographed routine couldn't be seen by generations to come. I purchased the Biro/Porper "Ghostly Linking Finger Rings" after being inspired by Cervon.
Best,
MJ

Thanks Pete, for your timely reply. That is very sad to hear, that he did not leave a record of his creation.
Looks like Nick Lewin, still does not have his web tore up and running, links don't work and no pricing. I find it interesting that the 1st 100 will be sold television performance rights, kind of 1970's thinking here. Television is kind of dead, should have made this Internet performance rights, or YouTube performance rights, or computer screen viewing rights. As we all know, once it is on the Internet, we have no control where it goes from there. http://www.nicklewin.com/store.html
Just emailed Nick Lewin at sales@nicklewin.com and the mail was returned as not deliverable.

Also, where can I found it.
Thanks!

The pen is not sold separately, it comes with the new style Ghostly Linking Finger Rings. $695.00
It is not the Al Koran design, but the Pete Biro / Joe Porper designed Pen.

Nick Lewin's new website is here:

Seems there are several old sites that are no longer working.

Bill: It "is" the Koran design. What Koran sold via Stanley was a bent pin on a wooden pencil. But what Porper and I are marketing is the real work given to me personally by Al Koran.

Okay Pete, it is the Koran/Biro/Proper design for the Pen sold with the Ghostly Linking Finger Rings.
Pete, who designed the ring operation?

Do you mean the Ghostly Linking Finger Ring?
I thought it up, then drew it up and Porper solved the making.
The AmazeRing was suggested by Alan Bursky, but Porper had been thinking of making it like his Ghost Ring, and when Bursky asked for one, Joe got it into production.
The original Himber Rings were a collaboration between Persi Diaconis and Willy Schneider. They were NOT arthritic rings, which expanded, but did not open.

Note: There is something very special INSIDE the mechanisms that Chinese, or any other copyists, cannot figure out. Hence, bad hinges that will not line up properly.

I would like to ask something about that routine with the rings collected in a wine glass ...I guess is Pendragon ideea and is use it by Mark Kalin I think ...afterthat I heard in Genii magazine by Steinmeyer ideea ...something without any switch and again that wine glass....Recently I saw on youtube Jason latimer perform with a wine glass but that clip was for television and they puted a stooge ..
I find very clean and interesting the ideea to collect the rings in a glass and I like very much the image when the rings are linked when are removed from the glass with a pencil or a long stick but I am sure that betwen collected rings from spectators and removed part was another short removed rings for secret linked ...I am right ?
About Cervon I didn't saw his legendary performance but I think that he bring the 3 spectators on stage and he manage the moment keep them a little bit separately and for sure he know how to block for short time the view of some of them for secret switches .
Thank you
