I was wondering what some of your favorite go-to effects are for bars, country clubs and other social gatherings are. Currently I perform Warning by Kostya Kimlat, a 5&1 transpo and a few effects with loops on a regular basis. Also, if anyone has Molten by Morgan Strebler, has this effect worked well for you in these scenes? I'm just trying to get some ideas of different effects to add.
Thanks,
Andrew

You can do a bottle cap into a beer bottle with a PK ring. coin in bottle with folding coin. and coin through coaster into shot glass with a magnetic coin + PK ring.
mini-chop cup in your hand could be good.... you can present it like a bar bet.
I also like the colour changing knives. TT tricks are good because the lighting is normally pretty dim so they're unlikely to spot your TT in a lower light venue.
I've also had good reactions from the matchbox penetration trick.... I present it as a guessing game... you have to guess what's inside and you get two clues... first clue is that the toothpick passes right through... the second clue is that it's heavy. then you can pass it around the table so that everyone can feel how heavy it is. then when they pass it back to you, take the toothpick out and say "no one ever guesses it's a solid block of brass" and you reveal the block of brass inside and then they can examine everything.
packet tricks are always good. I like entourage and NFW myself.
a fun one for bars that I like to do is either 2 copper 1 silver (or copper/silver/brass) or hopping halves and I tell the spectators that I'll be performing an old fashion drunk test... because this is what cops used to do before breathalysers were invented... they would see if you can keep track of which coins are in which hand. if you're sober you have no problem... if you're drunk, you forget which coins are in which hand. you can joke about them getting cut off at the bar or whatever also. and ideally if you're doing hopping halves, for the last one, you can say "if you get this last one wrong, the police would take you to the drunk tank" and hopefully they'll say that 2 coins are in your hand... then you reveal your hand to be empty and say "you're going to jail drunko!"
stand-up monte could be good also... and even though I don't own the trick, I'm probably going to get 3 by steve valentine... his 3 card monte trick looks to be better than stand-up monte and would be a perfect trick for the bar.

Nothing can touch Card Under Drink or Card on Forehead (although I don't personally do the latter). They both take a LOT of work though.
IT work can be a good choice if you have the right "conditions".

Well the most important factor would be what type or venue you are performing at... a bar like "coyote ugly" or something more up scale like a country club... both are extremely different venues with extremely different clientele. for the former I would recommend more visual effects involving rubber bands, color changes, vanishes, punctures, fire(wallet), souvenirs... and for the later I would say you could spend more time with more "elegant" performances and presentations utilizing story telling and slight routines. basically it comes down to the venue and who you will be performing for. you have to imagine what mood they are most likely to be in while they are there and where they just came from and where they are going, this will help you determine what effects would suit them best

I agree, card under the drink or ash tray, card on forehead. Sponge rabbits, sponge balls, card in the match book and three card monte are all magic tricks I have used behind a bar.
Just a few thoughts and opinion.
