Lots of great surprises this year! Watch Bobby Maverick defy death in his upside down 60' straight jacket escape downtown Colon on Friday August 3rd and he will also be performing in front of the shop on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Any of you who saw him perform last year knows how much fun everyone had and Bobby has some extras up his sleeve!

It's going to be a grand week - magic everywhere - and almost non stop. For those who want to buy and sell at our MAD MAD Auction Friday night I suggest you get there early - last year we didn't stop until 2 am :)There is no cost to bid - and just a 15% house fee - our good friend Marien Hopman will be auctioneer again this year - he is crowd favorite.

All of the banners are up and now the Stars have been installed! You won't believe the surprises in store for magic week. Of course we want you to spend your $$ in Colon but for those looking for a sidetrip don't forget the American Museum of Magic In Marshall, Michigan. Jeff and the gang have done a great job promoting it this year. Plus, you can visit the Firekeepers casino & the Zoo in Battlecreek - only 30 minutes away if you get here early - and take your sweetie to Shipshewanna, Indiana just over the Michigan/Indiana state line - lots of great Amish stores to visit. Plenty of golfing too - St. Joe golf course is my favorite and Island Hills is just down the street - fishing? We have great fishing in Sturgeon, Palmer and Long Lake. Two public access locations - and the crappie and smallmouth have been plentiful lately! Go visit Edie Doenges at the Colon Bait & Tackle store - celebrating their 45th anniversary - best stocked fishing store around! If you like history - go check out the Colon Historical Museum - prez Joe Ganger and the entire staff have put together a magic display and history display of Colon that will make your eyes pop! It's open during magic week August 1-4 from yea, 1-4 pm. Robin Mundt, Marilyn Abbott's daughter, will be there to greet folks and answer questions as well.
and announcing a great fundraiser - The Colon Historical Society has put together a 1 hour 15 minute DVD on the history of show biz in Colon! Professionally produced, it's narrated by Joe Ganger and you will learn some wonderful tidbits on entertainment in our little village. It's only $15 and all proceeds go to the historical society. Pick up your copy while you are here!
So there is lots to see and do - almost overwhelming but come enjoy Colon - once you have visited here - you WILL return :)

Lots of great activities going on this week and don't forget Al the Only's Cemetery tour! 27 Magicians have called Colon their final resting place. There are markers at the cemetery and maps are available in our shop so you can find where these folks. Gwynne,Fox,Stern,Blackstone and all the others. The Colon Historical Museum features items like: Percy Abbott's original vent figure "Joey", Blackstone items, and so much more! The museum is open 1-4 pm Wed thru Saturday during Magic week. A Magical History Lesson !

Great turnout for the FAB Shows! Great to see so many younger magicians hanging out at the shop! Most I have seen in a long time. Tourists from all over coming by and Travel Channel coming to the shop to film on Thursday!

I think there could be a good "walk in" crowd this year in Colon. Dr. Jerry Burgess and others came over/will be coming over from the FCM convention later this week. The FCM convention ended up having 15 more than last year (I think the registration number was 420) even though pre-paid registrations were down. The dealers at FCM seemed to be doing a brisk business this year too. It was very neat walking in the Abbott plant Wednesday afternoon to pick up my registration materials and Mac King was standing there- so he is obviously spending the full week in Colon too. See you there tomorrow at 9AM at the Magic Ministers session with Dr. Jerry!

If you stop in at FAB Magic in Colon, Rick has all the free materials about the ADVANCE/Laflin Conference in October in nearby Coldwater, Michigan.

Special Thanks to Tom Dalden and their crew of "Under The Radar" tv show. They spent the better part of the day filming here in the shop and outside - due to air in a few months on all PBS channels in Michigan. It was a lot of fun and should bring some great exposure to Colon, Michigan!

It was great seeing you Bob! Wish I had more time to spend with you but we were so busy we hardly had time to even say hello. As we move forward and look to 2013 lots of positive changes on the horizon with MagiCelebration 10th anniversary July 31 - August 3rd here in Colon 2013 - stage shows at the high school and lots of things for the family to do next year - we have so much in store it boggles even my mind! Stay tuned to the Café for our new ads and watch the magic magazines. This will be an event you won't ever forget :)
Thanks to the tv stations that came by and to Senator Bruce Caswell who spent some time here on Friday, the folks from Magic Magazine and everyone else who helped make magic week a big success for us.
A Special Thanks to my good friend Bobby Maverick who made the downtown come alive! He did a great..not FAB ulous job. We had to cancel the straight jacket escape due to the heat - wasn't worth taking the chance - but Bobby came thru famously like he always does! And we booked him for next year already! Our staff of Krag & Carol Ryal and Mark Davis gave everyone who came in the door that special attention. The Close up contest was big success and so much more. Watch for pics on our site
