Right now I have a little carved box but the illusions themselves are kept in small ziplocked bags and it's not good.
Things are getting messy in that box and I can't find anything quickly. My wife, the clever seamstress that she is, suggested that she could make me a "roll up" kind of cloth thing with small pockets to keep them all seperate, but together. All I need to remember is what trick goes where (using a fabric marker to write things like S&S or PP3 on the pockets seems to be a good idea). How about everyone else? How do you keep your illusions, gaffs and regular working coins organized? |

The endless problem of the gaffaholic - how to organize. As you buy more, the storage area seems to get smaller and smaller ...

I bought an all black leather makeup case that women keep makeup in. It has 3 folding storage layers on each side...I have each separated by dollar or half dollar, then misc coins on one side, and all other close up items on the opposite side. In the center holds my cups and balls, sponges, glass bottle, and bigger items. It was 30 bucks at Christmas tree shops. I love it and take it everywhere with me!

Office depot has some nice storage boxes made of plastic that I use for all my magic. The boxes I use for coins has six compartments in it and works great.

I use camera cases made of aluminum with foam padding.

When I was a kid, I remember keeping my stuff in an old fishing tackle box. The kind with the fold down trays for lures and hooks. We painted it brown and I kept trick decks, closeup effects, wands, and the old Bobo's book and more in it, it held a lot. Remember that it was always very magical to me to even open it up. It was like looking through those glass showcases at magic shops, except I could actually touch the stuff. It was my most prized collection.

Great idea MB!
My wife is currently working on a "roll up" kind of long case. She got the idea from a roll up case my mother made for my dad to keep his woodworking drill bits. This will be similar to that but, of course, smaller with pockets to keep my coins and gaffs. She's awesome! |

Each set of gaffs can be stored quite nicely in a velvet drawstring bag, and those in turn can be kept in a storage case of your choice.
I keep my sets in their own dedicated coin purse (all of them are lined with fabric inside to protect the silver gaffs because most of them are actual leather purses and pouches) and/or HD card case made by CaseLogic. The HD card cases are nice because its pockets and lining are made out of the same stuff that the lint-free cleaning cloths are made of. |
