I didn't care for this at all. I would never bother going through the hassle when I think a better effect is the haunted deck with IT or loops.

Pricey to replace the gimmick if it breaks

Then you will never know how strong this effect is. Nicholas Einhorn really lifted the bar with this - its pure genius. Oh, and the card flying out of the deck DOES make a big difference to laypeople - its what they remember. Just when they think the effect is over... you send the card sailing out of the deck in their direction. I have performed this hundreds of times and although it takes work to get it looking good, its a solid gold stunner.

I use this as a closer in my show and it stuns the audience. I started with Al Bakers version, did LeClairs for a while and now do Spooked.
As far as whats on the floor...I don't perform in bars so that's not a problem. And if you happen to be preforming in a pig sty then put the deck on something ala LeClair. A hundred dollars is a pittance for this effect. Actually I spent more than that as I replaced the gimmick with a TM. As far as getting into the effect. That is beyond easy. My presentation handles this as well although I could it without cover if needed. Randy |

I use the LeCalir version ( hey, vernon thought it to be the best he'd seen ). It really plays big. The whole putting the deck on the floor idea seems to be overdoing it.

How much would you pay for a trick that puts you in a league above other magicians in your area?
How practical is putting the deck on the floor? Very. I have watched Nick do this trick dozens of times for 'real people'at real, high paying jobs. It does not fail to get gasps. People sitting at a table are happy to stand and watch. Is it the Ultimate Haunted Deck? No Is it the best Haunted Deck you can do right now? Yes.

It's the best. Simply the best.
I remember Jon performing it and giving me one of those rare magical moments... I currently have two (!) cardtricks in my repertoire that require a complete deck. One of them is Spooked. All right MagicChris, make your seventh comment in this one thread about how bad you think it is.

Well Chris, I'll let you do the math. You see, Spooked has been out for quite some time (it was available before the DVD was released for quite a few years at least. I bought it from Nick when it was available directly from him). It is the only effect I have on me all the time and I perform it at least once a week, and often many times at the same venue (weather permitting - I'm sure you can work out why). Satisfied?
Vernon may very well have changed his mind when he saw Nick's version of the haunted deck (him being dead and all I don't think he's available for a review). I can do no better than refer you to the host of big names who endorse Spooked. Until you have done it for laypeople, you will not realise that isolating the deck on the floor makes all the difference in the world, as does the firing of the card from the deck after the eerie cut. In the mind of the spectator, once the deck is no longer in your hands, anything that happens is all the more amazing. Its a pretty obvious when you think about it.

Its' simple, what really matters isn't what other magicians think, it's what the paying public think.
I saw Nicholas Einhorn perform this routine, bought it and have been using it whenever possible ever since. The reaction from real people, not magicians, is total disbelief, to lay people this effect is real magic. It's the effect that's talked about! As with most magic, the effect is in the presentation, done well it's a killer, done poorly it looks like a dealer dem.

Hocus Pocus has it on sale this weekend (clearing inventory) for about $45. Not sure how many they have left, so call ASAP if you want one.
You'd pay almost that much for just the gimmick.... |

I have seen both Jon Allen and Nicholas do this live and use it myself - alot. The first person I saw do it was David Penn in the UK and it flawed me. IMHO I also think that it is one of the reputation making effects for the professionally working magician.
It is the one I get asked about the most and gets me repeat work, again and again and again. Just my thoughts, TM |

Is it any CONs for Spooked?
Lighting. Angles. Sound. Fragile gimmick. etc. |

The Con's are those that you would normally associate with IT.
