Hi all,
I'm wondering if any of the more 'experienced' English posters here have any affectionate memories of Oscar Oswald, the late Soho eccentric magic dealer from the 50's/60s?
I'd love to hear them!

Oscar Oswald of Lexington Street? yes I remember him well. In those far off days we could "Do" the dealers, Corrinda, Ken Brooke, Oscars and Harry Stanleys all within walking distance of each other, great times.
My memory of Oscar was what a mess. Everything in a muddle but he knew where a certain item was that you asked for, disorganized filing as he put it. As a regular it became a pleasure with his permission to dive in and sort through the chaos yourself. Happy memories.

Oscar? Certainly a character. I still use some of his effects. It was Oscar who sorted out my set of punch figures for me and I use them to this day.
Oscar's Magic Mart was taken over by John Styles and he continues to run it from Kent. John supplied me with something only recently

Hi Guys,
How I can relate to the post by Kondini. What a pleasure it was for me, as a youngster of 11 or 12, arriving in Piccadily Circus by tube, knowing that the dealers were only a 5 minute walk away! They were all there, within minutes of each other. Harry Stanley, Ken Brooke, Davenports and the wonderful Oscar Oswald. What a man and what a dealer! He was a pure gem.
Everytime I visited Oscar in his little room with my, by that time, exhausted Mum,after a whole day of dealer scouring, he made sure that I never left without a whole pile of free magic magazines for, as he used to put it, "something to read on the train".
I still have, and use, a Silk Cabby which he sold me. I also have a children's effect, which so captivated my dear late Mum, called "Freddie the Footballer", a paper tear. Happy days!
Give me a bricks and mortar dealer anytime. Or am I just getting old?
Yours in Magic,
Lester
