I'm trying to remember David Devant's Seven Magical Effects?

I know these:

1. Appearance
2. Disappearance
3. Transformation
4. ?
5. Mental phenomena
6. Defiance of scientific law(s)
7. Levitation

Am I right so far?

What is the one missing?
Warmest regards
James

I am more familiar with the nineteen as listed by Fitzkee (I think defiance of scientific law is too broad a category), but it seems transposition (or trans-location) is an effect missing from your list.

Can you list those nineteen for me? [Save me ploughing through my Fitzkee Smile]

Sorry I'd overlooked this thread for so long, but glad cirrus gave us the list. Further clarification is in "The Trick Brain". It goes on to define those effects, and how they differ from one another, whereas some have grouped certain effects under a single heading. An example of this would be that a transposition could be defined as a vanish, followed by an appearance.

Of course then, the book goes on to give the practical methods for accomplishing each.

I file all instruction sheets using the Fitzkee list. It's much more practical than the old catalog "chapters" e.g.: rope, cards, balls, livestock, silks, etc.

Ha! our brains are all on the same channel! I picked TRANSPOSITION, too.
