Getting new newspaper subscribers paid more than throwing the papers! Most guys didn't bother to grow their businesses. (And people ask why I became a marketing professor and consultant!)

Time you wrote your autobiography, Bob. Well, at least the parts you CAN write about Smile

You are right. To get your parents to drive 100 miles each way to attend a magic lecture on a school night takes a very tenacious kid.

The question is, who lectured, was it advertised..and has that person done a million lectures already?? I notice its usually the same 20-40 people who are lecturing, each year.

I love lecturing. Usually get a pretty good turnout at mine.

But I'm still kinda "new". I've been lecturing for 4 years and have done quite a few in that time. But I'm not Aldo. So I draw decent crowds but not HUGE crowds. Problem is, there's a whole new generation of magicians who don't go to magic clubs. Why should they when they can get everything on the Internet? If these guys went to lectures, I'd have a much better turnout! Smile

I don't blame them but I do find it sad. There is nothing like seeing someone live. Depending on the magician, it can be so much better than watching them on DVDs and YouTube.

Aldo is a great example. Sure, it's cool to see him on DVD. But live, feeding off an audience, he's amazing. Same thing with Jay Sankey. Some people don't get his humor on his DVDs. Live, people are falling on the floor with laughter.

Now, I'm not Aldo or Jay, but I give an entertaining lecture that's chock full of practical, original magic.
