The Baldini Inner circle I some how pounded in 2445 Posts |
Mogar knives have a great balance and size, and they are super durable, I have several sets but one that I carry daily, having dropped them several times, and handling them as much as I do, they still look like new, but it is so easy to handle, so comfortable,

Just a note of reference:
If you can ever find a set of Scotty York's Color-Changing Knives........check them out.......they're long out of production, but his knives and routine are quite brilliant, in my opinion. |

I thought Scotty's knives were clunky and thick. They don't handle well, in my opinion. The Whit Haydn knives are made by Joe Mogar, and I think are excellent--they are what I use. Lanie Kibby makes some of the most beautiful knives around, and they handle great and I can highly recommend them.

Whit:
If you recommend them, I will certainly buy a set of knives from you and give them a try. Thanks for the heads-up. Scotty has a "move" he does with the knives that works for me....maybe I've just become adjusted to his handling with his knives but they feel good to me.... I also have a set of Tamariz knives and do his rainbow routine which I think is lovely and unique. I became seriously interested in the color-changing knives when seeing Matt Schulien do his version at Schulien's on Irving Park Road in Chicago. That man was a PHENOMENAL ENTERTAINER and seeing him perform forever influenced the way that I perform magic.! |

Just curious, do any of you use your coloring changing knives as knives? How are the blades? I've been thinking of getting a small penknife to carry around to open stuff up, and having a color-changing knife might be a nice bonus.

Per my post above, I just ordered a set of Whit's color-changing knives along with his Intricate Web of Distraction booklet.
Looking forward to getting these and using them. |

Color is not the only point. The length of the knives in accordance with your hand size allows you to perform some cigarette sleights using the knives.

I went into a shop that sold and repaired knives. Picked the ones I wanted and had them modified.

One of Matt Schulien's knives broke one night during one of his table-side performances.....and he kept using it from then on just like it was.....one side a regular-looking penknive, and the other side was plain steel.
This is detailed in the Matt Schulien book. My Tamariz knives are colorful.....and you can do some amazing routines with them A LA the Tamariz book. Although I will say that seeing Scotty York perform, up to that point he did the nicest color-changing knife routine I've ever seen. After seeing Whit's video and his comments regarding the Mogar set he sells and uses......I became convinced to give these a shot. Whit's routine is OUTSTANDING. Best I've ever seen....VERY commercial. |

@Teslatao. The Ray Szwec Knives and the Rodger Lovins Knives are both made from real knives and could be used daily. If you are only planning to carry 1 knife, Case Knives sells many of their knives in a "magician's knives" configuration. I don't believe they sell a matching two sided knife for any of them.
The Szwec and Lovins knives seem a little heavy to carry two (or three) all the time. I recently bought a set of smaller Szwec Knives which are about the size of the Mogar knives but thicker. I could carry two in my pocket. You could probably put an edge on the Mogar knives, if you wanted to use them. I'm not sure, how durable they would be. Jonathan |

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply Jonathan! I'll look into them. I've used Case knives before, and they're definitely quality blades.

The Morger knives look almost exactly like the Merrill knives that I have.

Mogar knives are great and they are durable. I also have "Flash" by Chad Long. These are great. I can take them to schools (no weapons zones). Plus- the flash drives are very easy to use and more difficult to flash the underside.

Further to the good advice you received, you can find with Victorinox (the makers of the Swiss Army knives) knives with two different sides. I offered some to my friend Johnny Thompson one had a white side and the other side had a piano keyboard painted on it.

A couple of weeks ago at lunch, I showed Dick Oslund my set of Joe Mogar Knives that I got for Whit Haydn's routine and he thought they were "Magic Jewelry"......that's one of Dick's "Oslund-isms", by the way.......

Good News For the first time since the 9/11 terror attacks, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will allow small knives and some previously prohibited sports equipment onto airplanes as carry-on items.
According to the TSA, passengers will be able to carry-on knives that are less than 2.36 inches long and less than one-half inch wide. Larger knives, and those with locking blades and molding handles, will continue to be prohibited, as will razor blades and box cutters Best Leo Jr |

Here is something I have been working on.
They are not knifes, but the idea is the same, just with a twist to it. Still in BETA though. Watch the video all the way through to get the idea. It's kind of hard to video without bleaching out the camera. http://www.raincloudmagic.com/products-page/devil-rods-beta |

Rodger Lovins makes a great looking set of color changing knives. They look like a set that you can purchase from the showcase of the Army Surplus store, and they aren't too expensive.
I don't trust what the TSA says and will not attempt to walk through the gate at the airport with a pocket knife on me. |

Here's another endorsement for Joe Mogar's knives. I do the Johnny Thompson 2 Knife routine with one of the Mogar Multi-Color Knives as the finale. Very colorful and showy.
