My latest project, "Bob Cassidy's Guide to The Jinx" has officially been launched.
From the blurb at Marketplace of the Mind: In this series, Bob Cassidy explores every single issue of Annemann's "The Jinx" in chronological order and provides commentary as only he can. Each issue will contain a combination of comments, anecdotes, and variations on most every effect that appeared in the magazine. In addition, each issue includes new PDF scans of the issues of The Jinx that are being discussed. Each issue will be available individually, usually two a month. By purchasing any one of the issues, you will be placed on a separate and exclusive e-mail list that will provide you notices of when new issues are available. PLEASE NOTE: For the convenience of those who have tablets and other mobile computing devices, the issues of BOB CASSIDY'S GUIDE TO THE JINX are 6" x 9". However, the original issues of The Jinx are 8.5" x 11". Each issue of BOB CASSIDY'S GUIDE TO THE JINX is provided as a separate PDF. Each issue of the Jinx is a separate PDF. It is best to be familiar with the material in the Jinx before you read BOB CASSIDY'S GUIDE TO THE JINX. The first issue is now available for purchase. For details go to: http://www.marketplaceofthemind.com/guidjinx.html ______________________________________________________________ Also note that members of my mentalism workshop receive the first issue of this series FREE and all subsequent issues can be purchased at a special discount. (To join this unique workshop, use the link in my signature below.) Good thoughts, Bob |

I'm reading mine right now and really enjoying it. This is a great idea and obviously a labor of love.
And thanks for including the link to the video of an impossibly younger version of you on Mind Probe! Yes, a great teaching device for a classic method as intended but also a piece of mentalism history in its own right, every bit as much as The Jinx is. |

Thanks Bill, but I'm not a piece of history yet! Got a long ways to go before I finally get this mentalism thing down pat.
Yes, this IS a labor of love. I'm working on a special edition that puts "The Jinx" into the context of the New York magic scene in the 1930's and shows how it's all inextricably connected to the present. Understanding the historical continuity of our art is, I think, essential for any serious mentalist, particularly those involved in the creative process. (BTW- did I mention that "Dr. Bill's Bend" by some guy named Cushman, is one of the neatest routines I've seen lately. Annemann would have loved it!) Good thoughts, Bob |

This is a remarkable work. Annemann's brilliant concepts re-examined by Bob Cassidy.
There's a perfect fit between the two. One compliments the other and the blending of both sets of ideas results in something quite unique. It's like the Jinx Squared. You know Bob has a wonderful way of distilling ideas down to their basic essence and then adding...something...remarkable. A wonderful project. Vastly under-priced if you want an honest opinion. (But don't tell Bob I said that...) David

I'd like to chime in as well about this project. If you love Annemann (as I do), then you will love Bob's "take" on the Jinx. I have sometimes struggled to find a modern day connection to some of Annemann's older materials and Bob does a terrific job of tying it all in and breathing fresh life into it. Also, I think it would be a mistake to assume that this is merely a historical revisiting of Annemann. (I admit that initially that's what I thought this would be.) Far from it. There is solid, workable material here that has already made me rethink aspects of my parlor show. Finally, let me add that if you like Bob's previous works, I'm sure you will enjoy this as well. For what it's worth -

Geez, shouldn't we be talking about Dr. Bill's Bend after that great compliment? Thanks Bob, that means a great deal coming from you.
I doubt you misinterpreted my history comment but I'll restate it differently anyway. Someday, someone (who's proably about 22 now) will be annotating your material. And people will recommend 3 books to newbie mentalists on the future holographic Magical Café; PME, 13 Steps and your Artful Mentalism. As a matter of fact, I think the latter has already come true. Bottom line, I'm really glad you had a much better 33rd year than Annemmann and I live in a time to see you make history. Watching a video of you as a young man, not yet displaying that full Cassidy confidence and panache, but knowing what is to come, is priceless. And a teaching moment of great value. That you still feel you have things to learn is not mock humility either and another lesson. I'm always impressed on the chats and Webinars how something suddenly clicks for you, and suddenly your planning to try it that way to see how it goes. Or when you take a caller or Michael's or Jheff's idea and run with it. Back to the topic at hand. Don't anyone dismiss this, thinking, "who needs to read another take on Annemenn?" As David and Ben eloquently stated this project is far, far more than just that. |

When I did that appearance on Mind Probe I was around thirty-three years old. And some of my best creations were still years in the future. I often wonder what Annemann would have contributed had he lived for another forty years or more.

Here's a suggestion for reading this great project. Go through it once and enjoy it.
Go through it again a second time and really read it. This time study the spin Bob puts on Annemann's ideas. Personally, I find it fascinating to see how Bob changes up or re-interprets Annemann's classic thinking. Then read it through a third time and think about what you can do with the ideas buzzing through your mind. And all for ten bucks? Are you kidding me? David

Jheff has now posted the purchase links for the second installment of the Jinx commentaries at http://www.marketplaceofthemind.com/guidjinx.html
I'm grateful for the positive reception I've received about this project. It's very time consuming to do, but for me it's been like discovering the art of mentalism all over again. Good thoughts, Bob |

In doing some research for an upcoming issue of my Jinx Commentaries, I just reread "Kicked in the Teeth by a Bullet," the chapter in William Lindsey Gresham's book Monster Midway dedicated to Annemann's life and tragic death.
If you can find a copy of the book(it came out after his classic Nightmare Alley but contains much of the background material he compiled for that work) you'll be well rewarded. Good thoughts, Bob |

If you find your own copy (of Monster Midway that is) your local librarian will be able to get it for you through I'LL (LINK+ on the west coast).

Hi Camel-
1. All of them. The actual number of issues of the Guide depends on how many issues of the Jinx are covered in each. Currently, each issue of the Guide covers two issues of the Jinx. That will vary depending on the specific content and length of individual Jinx issues and supplements. 2. I don't know. Good thoughts, Bob |
