I really like the floating object effect
but setting and bringing the thread is the most complex part. The most common IT gimmick like ITR, spider pen etc is good and portable. However, ITR is hard to control the tension, length of thread, and required to hide in somewhere. Spider pen is most advance gimmick in this stage but is a bit expensive only... For me , I just want to perform the simplest floating effect like spining card, coin etc, and I don't need a long thread. Thus, I design to make my own IT ring, it is portable, and the tension , length is completely on demand. By turning the outer cell ( the black one) , the thread will prolong as you want. It quite convenient and able to perform most of floating magic and still look for more application ~ |

This over complicated device suggest you did not seek any of the traditional methods of controlling and performing the Hummer Card effect. I do not see how your drilling a ring does anything but spoil a finger ring. If you have the connection to your hand/finger, you will not fool anyone with the effect. As when you move your hand, so moves the card. That is not a magic effect.
A magic effect is a card flying around your body without any idea how it is being controled. |

Hi bill,
Thanks for the advices, For the idea of device, it is come from steve Fearson's floating cigarettes routine. The cigarettes is completely under control and move in different directions . I watched the steve's dvd and he is brilliant in floating magic. But setting up and pull out certain length of string is really annoy me. Such device can slove the problem and more easily to retreat the thread. |

Well, I certainly like to see it in action, as I have Steve Fearson's floating cigarette, and this ring thing of your yours would only limit the handling, as I imagine it in my mind.

Zero, don't pay attention to the poop in the punchbowl. Good luck with your endeavor. I would be interested in seeing more as it progresses.

I think that's brilliant! I mean if you have the tools, the know-how and passion to make something like that, I say go for it!

R&D is the life blood of magic. You should continue with your experiments to get what you want.

Finally did it.
Here is the testing video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iiofD3hoXc After testing, pulling and retreat string is smooth and not the problem. And It can involve in different routines. Sometime I just want the card spin and float for a few seconds, then continue the card routine. |

I was hoping for a magic trick effect in your video, I already understand what the ring is suppose to do, and it looks like it works very well. It is the magic effect that is more important then the ring gaff, it is going to be available to produce a magic effect.

Congratulations !
I think when this is given to a real "coin man", he can come up with wonderful applications for it. The floating bill and the rising card will be surely candidates. |

Well done.
Creative and innovative. Don't let the negative people discourage you. You always have to deal with the "glass is half empty" mentality. You have made a lot of progress. And I can see a lot of thought & work & tools skill went into this. New ideas have a logical progression before the full blown effect can be demonstrated. After the entire sequence of: idea conception, research, first gimmick, improvements, testing, getting feedback, more testing. Then there is refinement and practice. Don't let anyone pressure you until you feel you are ready. I am very interested in your project. Congratulations
