Find a name for a magic trick is not so easy. However it is the first thing the buyer will see, it is important to find a catchy name and in connection with the effect proposed.
Artistically speaking, I think it must be a really interesting step. What the name of Tenyo trick that you find the best choice, what is your favorite, the most imaginative, the less inspired? I imagine that for a French magician, English name seem more interesting than it would really be in French language. For exemple Moonspinner sound really good in English for French, but translated in French it does not look so great ... For me I always really like : -Illusionarium. Like the idea and the mix of words. Really fit to the trick. -Parabox. I don't know what it mean but I like this one too. -Moons of jutpiter. This one is very poetic ( like Ribbon Forever). And I love the props in himself. -God hand : In fact I prefer the name of the Japanese version, I find that the God Hand name is really good. But Card Surgery is just good as well. - Shrinking pen is not really inspired Well I like the dozen others, and many others names are really ingenious ... ...but I want to know those you love ! |

Metal Matrimony and Nightmare in Color sound cool and are discriptive of the effect.

It's not Tenyo: it's Mikame. All of the "MC" items are "Mikame Craft."

Geometrick - makes me think of the Owen Supreme illusion
Bioshock - is kind of descriptive and maybe scary Sutekina - not sure what it means... but sounds exotic |

There are so many great ones, but Floating Lady comes to mind as it denotes one of magic's staple illusions.

Thank you for all reply,
I agree there is so many good name, but it may be noted that since the 2000s the names are less desirable, and less studied. I don't know of it's because Gary Ouellet passing, but old names are more interesting. |

The time that Gary was helping with the instructions was definitely one of the golden eras for Tenyo. I had an opportunity to spend some time with Gary at a magic convention in the early 90's, he was a real gentleman and very knowledgeable about magic. I learned a very funny opening gag from him that I have used numerous times in presentations and talks.

A long time magician at my local IBM told me he and Gary Ouellet used to dream up the names to give the new Tenyo releases back in the day as they were not expected to purely translate the given Japanese names. I will give him a heads up as to this thread and he may share how they came up with some names.
