I have been asked to show one effect this Sunday to 5-9 year olds, with the topic being "broken" and how God takes supposedly broken things and puts them to use or makes them whole. I know cut and restored rope, but that's really it for me. Any quick ideas, how about the broken fan effect I see advertised?

Gypsy balloon would be perfect, as would Gypsy Thread. As you already mentioned the C&R rope is good as well. T&R newspaper, too.

I second the gypsy thread and you can find/buy downloadable instructions. A little practice and you're good to go for this weekend. The simple version of C&R ropes is not as strong since you can't separate them. With gypsy, the thread is cleanly shown as broken.

You can also find cut & restored balloon. If you have a TT, you can cut & restore a dollar bill or anything else that will fit inside of it.

The Break-a-Way Fan would be a simple highly visible effect to use as well
