? My hero's wife? Bernie Sanders is not my hero, if that's who you mean. Nor is he a socialist, despite what he may call himself. Neither is my hero the former proprietor of Trump University who scammed thousands. Sanders was merely, in my opinion, the best of those running to be a major party candidate.
Re commodities: Again, you misunderstand what a commodity is. It's different from the idea of ownership. The concept of buying or selling Native land in the 1300s would be incomprehensible. Land was understood as something respected by the community, not to be bought and sold by private interests. And until you call for a vast cut in the military budget--the largest item in our Big Government--you are simply not being honest about being against Big Government. Whether a function is codified in the Constitution or not doesn't change it from being big, huge, massive government. And as to the number of people killed under socialism, the extermination of native peoples in the colonial era alone through the Americas, Africa, and India far outnumbers anything that happened in the so-called socialist countries. And you can chalk World War l and World War ll up to capitalists fighting to expand and maintain their markets, too.

And by the way the old "oh everyone else is worse" simply does not make a good argument.

By the way just because the establishment has become huge, does not in any way mean everyone agrees with it. But that little fact seems to escape you.

Seems everytime we implement a system to lessen the oppression of the peoples we have to murder and torture 30 - 60 million people along the way. At least in the old days we were killing them and getting a profit out of it. |

Oh you are supposed to forget all that and listen to his revision of history.
It is always interesting how nobody points to where it has EVER worked on large scale. It can't. So you have to compare with fantasy land bs. Make up stuff. You should airways win in that case. But in the real works meanwhile they slaughtermillions upon millions.

Really RNK, at least read what you're responding to. I just acknowledged that Bernie calls himself a socialist in my previous post.
But calling yourself a socialist doesn't make you a socialist any more than calling yourself a magician makes you a magician.

All people want to be free to express themselves and achieve their own objectives. Unfortunately that sometimes means being a freeloader. You cannot have people that use the system and not put back. In socialism there is no mechanism to regulate this. It assumes all people have the same aims. If you don't you have to be 'changed' by going to the gulag or whatever. In a market system, you get out what you put in - in most cases. The major dichotomy is between those that want fewer controls and those that want more control. More control is always a platform for exploitation and oppression. You can't get around that. Any system that centralizes any controls will be the most oppressive as has been proven time and time again. However, you can't make cogent points with fantasy thinking. It's fine for dorm room musing, but can never be an actual form of living. Plus it was built on the issues around the industrial revolution which is over. Failed idea, failed implementations. Only value is a platform to rail against the existing with no real idea of changing what is. |

Is this about centralized (totalitarian) government? The morality of paternalism? The value of ones time as property? The right to have land as property?

Unsustainable economic system which treats all, including land, as a commodity ===> unsustainable world for human life ===> hiding head in sand denial, both political and economic ===> ignoring vast brutality and murders of present economic system ===> must defend by demonizing socialism as a system that never "worked," while implying the deaths of hundreds and hundreds of millions and the poverty of hundreds of millions under capitalism is "working." Since you asked.

What is your evidence of working? The extermination of Native peoples in the Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the millions more killed in Vietnam, Iraq, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Libya, Yemen? And that's just the wars, never mind the miserable working and living conditions people live under in most of the economically colonized countries.
Working? That's your evidence?

So what is your solution exactly? Give all the land back to whom and at what point was it "theirs"?
