It would be great to have a 3 day optional mentalism learning/training workshop after next year's Mentalism for those who want to get more out of it. Is that possible?

I was thinking about making my first trip to MINDvention in 2014. So, forgive my ignorance but... where could I find out more about the workshop stuff?

Definitely going to attend this year. Missed last year and I really missed the great camaraderie. Count me in for 2014!

If there had been more interactive workshops for learning to improve my business I would have stayed for the whole thing. I checked out and left Monday morning having had enough of what I thought was a never ending ad. For myself once was more than enough. But I did learn what kind of entertainer I do not want to become, so it was educational. Can't remember his name, but the performer who was on Sunday about 8 pm was very good. Knew his business and was interesting to watch.

I had a superb time and learned a lot at my 1st MindVention.

It is a who's who of some of the best people in the world - a small group, and many opportunities to learn from some of the best!

I did not think that there was anything like a never-ending ad - ad for what? I completely and totally disagree.

Was the convention perfect? Of course not - there were a few snafus as there are at ANY majoy conference.

But overall the quality of performers, the quality and friendliness of the attendees, and the quality of the learning experience made MindVention something special.

I 100% recommend this to anyone seeking to learn and grow while meeting old friends and making new ones Smile

I will be there in 2014.

It was disappointing that most performances seemed to be product sales demonstrations performed by dealers.

Michael Weber, was great (I believe that is who Peter McMillan was referring to) and educational. Cashetta's performance was incredible in both technque and entertainment value. In both cases, it felt like we got to actually see working professionals perform and it was GREAT! Cashetta was the only performer I recall who was there to purely entertain and had "nothing to sell."

I realize that it must be very hard to find professionals who are willing to perform for a group of mentalists. Sadly, it's a tough and generally thankless audience and no working professional wants to have their act ripped off.

However, I go to these things not only to spend time with friends, but to learn and improve my craft. And that means more than just purchasing toys.

Learning about new products is great -- for a day. I do agree with Peter that it would be nice to have some smaller, interactive workshops. Just look at all the training workshops being offered before and after Mindvention. There is CLEARLY a demand for that type of training. Those are the type of topics that should really be PART of Mindvention, not leeching off of it. Even if they were a small, extra registration fee.

I agree. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. As far as ads, hey if someone has something good to show me, I want to see it.

I enjoyed it all as well. I wasn't looking for new effects to add to my act, but was looking to learn and grow as a performer. I found very much of value. Watching Bob Cassidy perform was worth the trip by itself. Watching Micheal Weber work was terrific. And watching Cashetta in action was a blast. Were there some sales pitches? Sure, but nothing that got in the way of the truly valuable stuff.

There was also a nice surprise performance from Bill Abbott and his little Monkey - I don't remember him trying to sell me anything lol.

Seriously, I do agree that maybe having some "break-out" type workshops could be an amazing extra and would be the convention even better.

Weber was brilliant - still thinking about his performance. But just like at any lecture, many of these guys (and Cashetta) did pull back the curtains quite a bit in terms of explanations and routining.

I posted my experience at Mindvention. You post yours. On second thought, forget it.

Every thing was great, just great. A perfect time and excellent use of my $500.00. Everybody in the world should attend 2014.

Happy now?

Guess I need to get to 1000 posts for my opinion to count. Just don't have that much time to spend on Magic Café.

You know, Peter, no one is knocking your experience of Mindvention.

All 8 or so hours of it. The Convention started Sunday at noon, and ended Tuesday evening. If you left on Monday morning (before the Q&A Lecture, Bob Cassidy's Lecture, and quite a few other performances and lectures that happened on Monday afternoon, Monday evening, Tuesday morning, and Tuesday evening), you may simply have gotten something other that those of us who stayed for entire convention got.

As you can see Peter your view was validated by some. No issues. Everyone has their opinions and we are just having a discussion.

In the past, I have sent Danny requests for sessions that focus on some of the mechanics of mentalism. For example, a focus session on bi*llet swtiching, with Elliot Bresler, or n*il writing, or using imp pads properly, or even some stagecraft techniques, like where to position spectators, etc. Attend one of Juan Tamariz's wonderful workshops or lectures, and you will see many of these type of discussions, which will help enhance our performances.

That being said, I have always loved MindVention and enjoy the exchange of ideas, the performances, the products, the demos, and meeting up with friends.

I will have admit that I was severely dissapointed with the cancellation of Lord of the Horses and Bruce B. I know there are circumstances in life that create this. My ultimate decision to come was for Lord!

Poor Bruce I know had some kind of a flare up and would not have been able to speak from what I heard.
