It would be great to have a 3 day optional mentalism learning/training workshop after next year's Mentalism for those who want to get more out of it. Is that possible?

If there had been more interactive workshops for learning to improve my business I would have stayed for the whole thing. I checked out and left Monday morning having had enough of what I thought was a never ending ad. For myself once was more than enough. But I did learn what kind of entertainer I do not want to become, so it was educational. Can't remember his name, but the performer who was on Sunday about 8 pm was very good. Knew his business and was interesting to watch.

I think the thing is different people attend Mindvention wanting and expecting different things. Danny & Robert walk the fine line of personal preferences and input from all of us, what they've had in the past, what they've yet to have, domestic mentalist featured guests, as well as those from abroad, stage vs. strolling or closeup, classic vs. young, newer breeds, and so many other factors. I think as interest in mentalism has grown, as well as Mindvention, a new set of challenges appear. It seems to be getting a bit more magic-y to some, and to me it seems to include more newbies or converts as opposed to the feeling I used to get that it was more for and with working pros.

I too would like to see much more on the business of mentalism. There are so many different and other ways this could go in this area that I think would be beneficial to the majority. Mentalism is more than just about effects and new releases. While I love guys like Doc, Weber, and such, there is a feeling of the same guys with a few new additions, especially on panels. Paul Draper seems to always be a fixture, where others might be of greater interest that attendees may not have seen before.

The problem with someone just speaking on Bi***ts, is it's great for those with an interest, but completely alienates everyone else not specifically into that one area.

I personally would like to see more of the classics and legends that are true workers rather than the latest new, hot young guys and creators, but I'm probably in the minority.

I've always learned the most from guys like Cassidy, Osterlind, Ross Johnson, Ted K., Christopher Carter, (I would love to see Bruce Bernstein), Tim Conover would've been great, Banachek, Craig Karges, Chuck Hickok, of course Docc and Michael Weber (I'd like to see Michael perform and lecture more rather than just be on panels and assist others), Larry Becker, Lee Earle, Lior Manor, Robert Channing, Marc Salem, I missed Stetson, Riggs is great, Greg Arce would be great and of course Mark Strivings - these guys I feel have the most to offer all attendees of all ages.

I'd also like to see more comedy mentalism like John Archer again, Mel Mellers, Kranzo's mentalism, etc.

I can do either IBMSAM or Mindvention this year. I'm leaning towards Mindvention.

I concur with MP; personally I am looking for business and performance insights. I think this best comes from those with the practical experience. I believe it is also appropriate to present information tangential to professional performance but important to the professional performance of mentalism.

I hear you all and I will do my best. Remember that what is of interest to one person is not of interest to another. Due to space limitations, breakout sessions are not that easy to pull off.

Please keep you suggestions and comments coming.

What would you say is the distribution of focus (in percentage) on the topics of performance, business/promotion, and networking?

I would say most is in performance, with a a session or two on business. Nothing specifically for networking as that is a constant, informally throughout the entire event.

The line-up just keeps getting better and better but I'm getting married on October 11th! I don't suppose you could bump the convention back by a couple of days. Didn't think so...

Given the subject matter of Richard Osterlind's new book, and that he will be there, you can bet there will be a wealth of information about the business of performing professionally bouncing around the convention.

I hope so, but in the past he's been careful to tread there too much and is always apologizing for doing so when it happens, even though I, myself and other workers often feel it's the best part as it rings so very true on many levels. The problem is many that attend the conventions are not at that level of a professional and I think can often take or receive this information differently than intended, and typically complain because "they didn't teach enough tricks/effects."

But I agree with Tom, I hope the book provides the reason for an even higher soapbox, as Richard calls it.

Those of you that are making a week of it in Vegas might be interested in attending Jeff McBride's Wonderground Thursday nite after the close of Mindvention. Two stage shows, one close-up, great food and great friends. Some special acts I understand are being booked! http://vegaswonderground.com/
