There are still a few copies left at some retailers. Once the last batch arrives at Magic Inc we may have one copy available... I would need to confirm our waiting list. At any rate, the $300 book sold out in about 2 weeks. Someone mentioned that you shouldn't price this book so high based on the content because by that token Card College (a terrific series) should be priced in the thousands. Well, having gone through some of the material on the book, I can agree: both Card College AND the Johnny Thompson book should be priced in the thousands if you are just putting a price on the content and quality of presentation. It is a fortunate thing that the publishers made them more accessible to magic students across the world. |

We are pleased to announce that The Magic of Johnny Thompson is now sold out, and officially out of print. Although individual dealers may still have individual copies in stock, so if you look quickly you may still be able to get one. Because of the size of the book, we're unsure yet if there will be a reprint.
Thank you to everyone who has made it such a success, most of all Johnny. |

I have the Berglas’s book in front of me, it is a hardbound one. I’m not sure for the price, but I would say it was $150.
I think they will print the Thompson book again in a couple of year. The book is out of print from the publisher point of view. But there is still some in the magic stores around the world for sure. |

Berglas's book is invaluable if you use it. I will not sell it for any price. Not sure about Johnny Thompson's book as I have not seen it yet.

James Allan- When you say “we”, do you represent Magicana or are an employee of Magicana? Thanks!

This set of books is a treasure that will give you many hours of joy reading them. There have been so many over hyped
and expensive books that have come out over the last few years. This book over delivers in the quality of the binding and layout, the contents from what I read so far is outstanding! Each effect is described in detail with variations and tips on performance. It is the next best thing to having Johnny mentor you personally. I usually dislike it when people say that a product is worth way more than the asking price, on this occasion it is and you can see why it is selling for $300 which I would say is fair. If you are on the fence about this book and can afford it , you will not be disappointed. |

Just got an email from Penguin saying they have a few copies available. Guess some smudging with the signatures. They found about a dozen. GL.

I got here late, but this thread really has me angry.
Anyone (and on this thread there are a mind-shattering amount of you) who is shocked at the price of these volumes displays both naivety and a sad disregard for the value of a man's life's work. This is the last of magic's renaissance masters. A lifetime was spent developing these routines and honing them through decade after decade after decade of performance. These routines were this man's living. $300 is too much? Cry me a river! Well, they're out of print and I am glad you do not get to have these. You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves. To those of you who were fortunate enough to purchase these, I am incredibly jealous. You are very lucky. |

I purchased one of the smudged ones from Penguin.
I have been a huge fan of His since I first saw him in 1992 at Abbott’s! I recently had a chance to meet him and spend a few moments with him.. It was definitely like being in the presence of greatness! Can’t wait to read these! Thanks to all who made these books happen.. most of all Johnny! |

In fact, I could point to innumerable examples within magic of a creator parting with years of work for far less than Mr. Thompson is. Tommy Wonder would be an excellent example, and may he rest in peace. But that was Mr. Wonder's decision. It is Mr. Thompson's right to choose the price of his creations. ***The problem is that you, and those like you, feel ENTITLED to Mr. Thompson's work at a lower price. And you have absolutely no right to that. None.*** |

And I for one am glad that the entitled children will not have access (at least until some d*ushe nozzle scans their copy and sells it as a PDF) to this material.

I have said that I won't buy this book because I will not support an exorbitantly priced book that may help shift publishers' prices for other books upwards and out of reach. I am wary of how this may distort the market, and the effect on other future books. And I have contested your romanticized notion that book prices should be set in accord with the fetish value of their content, which is overwhelmingly not how the publishing market generally operates. Generally the better books make more money by selling more copies, rather than by being priced many times higher than the others. I have noted that idolatry is evidently an effective marketing strategy for certain audiences, and I acknowledge that it has demonstrably worked on a large scale in this instance. And I am disappointed in that outcome, because it will now doubtless be employed again in the future. |

Can you imagine a book on complète works of David Copperfield ? With all the details and diagrams of his illusions. Making a gorgeous product, you can price them $ 10 000 and some people will purchase them for sure.
