If you want to get into semantics of theft…
Dynamo stole the name 'Magician Impossible' from a good friend of mine. My friend originally pitched a magic show with that title around 2000, the idea got picked up then dropped. He went on to do other things. Also as much as I like Dynamo he seems a good guy who really likes magic, he took much of his original persona from Blaine. The 'Look watch, watch' and then walking away right after, even doing some of Blaines effects straight up. He seems to have evolved slightly since then. Not to even get onto Criss Angels attack on Dynamo over both copying his effects and imagery. The magic world is rife with 'borrowing'…. |

So, Dynamo's production team blatantly ripped this off. I don't blame Dynamo, he's just told what to do. As far as i-clear goes it doesn't take a creative genius to come up with that idea. Following the release of the omni-deck it's not hard to think up a list of objects that could become clear. Even the WMS guys managed that one!

I've just removed my cover and spent a good two minutes cleaning it. This effect, like many others that require a vanilla iPhone, is not workable in the real world. Great for a TV show, but that's it IMO. |

OK Alan, we've heard you. I guess some of this is a hangover from the smoke thing too?
Now where's that nice smile of yours gone? I've heard reports of you being grumpy recently. I know you've been through some tough stuff in the last few months but we all know there's a happy Alan in there somewhere.

I really like dynamo, I like his shows, he seems like a good guy who loves magic and I like anyone who puts magic on tv that people like; which he definitely does. There is however a slight irony as dynamo's first series had barely an original moment in it. I'm not saying that makes stealing an idea (if that's happened) right; I just see a bit of irony.
In my opinion if the method and effect are the same then rights go to the first person who can prove they did it first. If its just the effect that's the same and the method is different, then that's fair game. Perhaps a credit ahould be given but magic would never go anywhere if the originator of the plot prevented it to evolve. |

The clear Iphone with the Apple logo remaining though I haven't seen over and over for the past 50 years. Regardless, what does Dynamo's prior behavior have to do with Shim Lin and this trick? You guys can't claim that Dynamo deserved to get ripped off and at the same time claim no rip off occurred. I don't have a horse in this race. Nor do I care about the trick. I just think it's amazing that Shin would actually claim to have never seen the Dynamo spot. The phones are EXACTLY the same in great detail. That's all. Rip each other off, I don't care one bit |

So MAGICIAN IMPOSSIBLE isn't a play on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE? Of course I know of Dynamo, and seen some of his stuff on youtube, but how is the idea of me not watching the specific episode involving an acrylic iphone, amazing to you? I asked all of my friends in the UK and they told me they've never seen Dynamo do anything with a clear iphone(mainly because not everybody watches every single episode). Maybe you watch every single episode that Dynamo does, but I have routines to create, places to travel to and crowds to perform for. So missing an episode of anything is very likely for me. As a matter of fact, I don't even keep up with Dynamo or Criss Angels show. I did watch Blaines though, and its great. Shin |

The Don… iPhone haven't been around 50 years...
Yes Magician Impossible is a play on Mission Impossible, what difference does it make? It matters who put it forward first. Which was a friend of mine. In fact I know the Joe Lebero deal. It was in fact the same company who made that show, that my fried pitched the show to. So it was outright theft, or borrowing or whatever. But this topic was made to be about people stealing from Dynamo. Omni-phone is just a play on Omni-deck, as is Omni-pen and Omni-tic tac box. There are at least three different people making different qualities of Omi-deck, I don't see jerry Andrus screaming about thieves? Or Paul Harris who came up with solid deception, which all those derive from. It was the tic-tac box that originally made me think of doing with an iPhone. In fact I may have posted that idea on here years ago. But like I said before, someone had put out Omni-iPhone over a year+ ago. It just wasn't very good quality. Just a omni-deck with a hole/dent drilled in where the button should be. |

Building on what Alan said though....why is it ok to think that if you can slightly alter something and get it to market first, that makes it ok. Asking why Dynamo didn't release his version first after performing it is sort of a senseless question. As Alan said, some creators and consultants like to create with no intention of ever marketing it.

But isn't the point that this is an obvious development from omni deck? I mean, a really obvious development, no?
Nul points for Shin and Alan on this one. |

True. But when the imitators cry foul on other imitators, it all gets a bit pathetic.

There's so much talk on here of how it's theft and blah blah blah, yet no one saying it has offered any evidence...at all. Zippo. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but I could come on here and say that I'm David Copperfield...none of y'all would believe me without proof. I'm not by the way.... Seems like if a person feels like they can openly accuse another of theft, over and over and over...it befalls that person to prove their position. Doesn't it? Carl |
