It seems that some members of this forum consider a child's toy to be dangerous and demonic as will be seen in this thread:

I think that as the art of magic advances, and the illusions become more realistic, convincing and "unexplainable by natural means" (I almost choked on that one!), more and more of us are going to suffer the fallout and take the rap for being "demon posessed".

Perhaps. However, I cast down vain imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God.

The rope through body illusion? Oh dear. As for sticking needles or spikes through a limb or appendage, acupuncturists do it all the time: it's called "through needling". Usually no blood at all. Arteries roll out of the way as the edge comes into contact; they have a certain amount of leeway in the body; this may be as a result of evolution or God. Either way, it happens to be true. Get Blaine to do this for an acupuncturist and they would be unimpressed, as am I.
What is far more difficult and hazardous is the first point on the stomach channel, which is reached by inserting a needle into the eye socket. I have done this while training, and had it done to me; it is not in the least painful, but I have not ever used it clinically! |

There are indeed natural explanations for all "magic" that we do. So sad that so many in their ignorance foist the blame off onto Belzebub.

I want to shout from the rooftops after watching these videos. Demons are real, but do they really think they would be spending their time helping Justin Flom link Life Savers or a staged Criss Angel Book test? ARG!!!

Demons might help inspire those who trick people into false beliefs. I don't see any scriptural evidence, for example, that any performer can truly move things by the power of his mind or using secret supernatural assistance. Yet some Christians ascribe such power to demons when they see magicians perform. IMO if demons have those powers, God almost always restrains them so they can't use them here.
Some of the things I've done in my shows these last few years... touching one person and the other person feels it, hypno-stunts that show one person's body being controlled by someone else, taking people's strength away, and of course telepathy effects... all these things are accomplished by my secret, natural means. But if they APPEAR to be supernatural and the performer gives himself or Satan credit for apparently doing it for real, what difference does it make? I don't need to actually read minds as a mentalist, I only need to appear to read minds (and I tell my audience as much). As a magician, you don't need to actually float a table to impress the audience, you only need to APPEAR to float a table. If you do it in a theater, people applaud. Do it in a church, most people applaud and some are disturbed. Do it in the Third World and people will out of ignorance bow down to you as a god. Satan doesn't need to actually give power to people who worship demons, he only needs to APPEAR to give power through demons. Sometimes he uses people like Simon Magus to lure people away from God as recorded in the book of Acts. Simon didn't need to have power, he used the appearance of power to gain followers. Satan is the father of lies. When he lies he speaks his native language. It's terrible when well-meaning believers repeat those lies, like when they agree that magic tricks performed by charlatans are actually real. You might understand my uneasiness about performing mentalism (which often still pops up). Even with a disclaimer sometimes the effect is so strong it can overpower anything I say.
The secret of deception is in making the truth seem ridiculous.

I just have to laugh when at the beginning of these videos they play this dark, ominous, evil sounding music! C'mon! Give me a break!
Now I have to admit, the oriental magician producing the three or four foot long piece of baked bread from raw dough completely had me stumped! I have no inkling where he was loading from. But I know it's still an illusion. A very good, convincing one at that, but still an illusion. And I suppose I can see where when something looks that real and convincing, some people might blame it on other powers. I suppose that's the price we pay for creating and performing illusions that look so authentic that a spectator's mind has nowhere to run except the supernatural. But what is the other option? To perform second rate effects so that we won't offend anyone? The more real it looks, the more I'd like to try it for pure astonishment sake, bless you Paul Harris. Anyway, on the floating bill, the comment was along the lines of "And just to prove that there are no threads attached." (or something to that effect). Then the one that made me giggle "There he goes! The spirit!" Yup, mister. That oriental guy really hired out some spirits or ghosts from Hell to cause a dollar bill to float. After all, Satan's minions have nothing better to do with their time. And on top of that, they are well trained and dependable. Just like my Yorkie, they do tricks on command! We magicians can get out there in front of an audience and literally stake our reputation that the dollar will not fall to the ground prematurely, because the spirits are so well trained. They just obey our every whim and participate happily in the illusion because they are under our power and they enjoy their job so much. And just like my dog, when the trained spirit makes me look magical by making the dollar float, I secretly throw him a little treat. "Atta boy!" "Good spirit!" "Now heel! Sit! Roll over!" Duh.

Before every magic show, I explain to the audience that these "are just tricks. You can go to the library and read how to do them, or look on youtube as well"..
Then I perform a "sucker" trick that shows them the ending, but then "trick" them with the second one...!! Sorry, a little sadistict !!! |

This Youtuber is a stumbling block and distracting Christians from the battles worth fighting. His channel also has "9/11 was an inside job" and "the Illuminati are real" videos.

I remember when I was a child, I believed magic was real. I believed the magician was really able to make the hanky disappear into thin air. Some of my friends even believed it was real...or, at least some of it was.
When David Blaine first aired his street magic special, many people believed that what he was doing was real. Even non Christians. Criss Angel built himself a cult following of people who believed he had real powers. David Blaine created his character to be believable. His intent was to present himself as someone with strange powers, not a cool guy who knows a bunch of neat tricks. Part of the spectator's shock towards magic is, I believe, because it questions their sense of what is real and what is not real. The best magicians of our time don't try to convince their audience that what they do is just tricks. That's just breaking the thin glass of illusion. I have always been told to allow the art to take a life of it's own. I think that is why there is some conflict with the issue of Christians and magic. Magic is deceitful, we are in fact deceiving people. Though solely for entertainment purposes. However, does that really give excuse to it? That has been a question I have been pondering for a while. Is it okay to be doing something that we shouldn't be doing for real, just as long as it's entertaining? The Bible doesn't give us any strong scripture about performing entertainment, but it does make clear what we should be doing and not doing. I tried to tackle this issue with my Bible study group, and was able to get their idea's from a non magician point of view. We discussed how some people believe magic is real, and how some Christians believe those who practice magic are demon possessed. The consensus was that the performer is responsible in how his/her audience views them. A few good points were made including this one. "A disclaimer means nothing, nor does it actually alleviate anyone's concerns who are already convinced because if they believe you have powers, they will also believe that you will lie about it." Makes kinda sense to me. Proof might be the only way, and that would mean revealing how the tricks are done. Most magicians would be against exposing the tricks. And, no guarantee that it will alleviate everyone's concerns. The only way to guarantee to not cause anyone to stumble or fall in their faith is to not be the cause of it. It is not our spectator's responsibility to be informed about how we make the magic happen. It is our responsibility to make sure that what we say and do does not cause one of our brothers and sisters to stumble. If you find that many Christians are believing that magic is of the devil, and you are a performer of it, how are you handling your responsibilities? :)
Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.

Ok, I never tell lies in my patter. One thing I will say is this:
I may not tell you the truth, but, I will never lie to you! (I will not tell how it's done, but "if", I tell them something, it will be the truth). |

"Everything you will experience tonight is completely unreal.
I have crafted this presentation solely for enjoyment and entertainment. I am only a guide; I have no powers nor do I need any. Your mind supplies everything to bring these events to life. Oh, and you can't trust anything I say - including what I've just said." I used to be one of those who believed anything I couldn't explain must be demonic. The fear is of breaking down the wall of reluctance to let people explore and touch the forbidden and get snared in the devil's traps. Pride and ignorance and arrogance have already trapped them, as it did me. Thank God I found an Abbott's catalogue and my ignorance was exposed. Ed |

Many people go to movies and think it's real. Many people see television and think it's real.
Many people see magic tricks and think it's real. Many people see many things and think the wrong things. Satan works very very well until you decide giving your life to Father - there's no other way around * it's the only way to get rid of the blindfold we all had. Many people are confused and we all know confusion doesn't come from Father. Many brothers have turmoils because Satan doesn't want you to step in where there's no light and all you need is to stick with the Rock The world is full of deception and it will stay that way - it's our job to be guided and seed His Love - no more no less - don't try to change the world because you can only entertain people doing illusions not giving illusions as truth to others. Don't rely on your own intelligence because you would never got where you are by yourself. Jesus is Alive brothers! LOVE from Portugal |
