Hi. How different is Ace from NFW? Seems to be pretty much the same thing

1KJ Inner circle Warning: We will run out of new tricks in 4385 Posts |
This is a really great thread because every once in a while, something really good comes out. There are classics that will always be good, but there is some good relatively new stuff too.
There are packet tricks that require some sort of special cards, and then there are packet tricks from an ordinary deck. Here are my ordinary deck picks: 1. Oil and Water. See Reel Magic Issue 26 - David Solomon. 2. Twisting the Aces. See The Secrets of Packet Tricks (World's Greatest Magic) Bill Malone. 3. Dr Daley's Last Trick. See World's Greatest The Last Trick of Dr. Jacob Daley by L&L Publishing As for packet tricks with special cards, I really like those are reliable after many performances and don't require expensive refills. So, I avoid DB tape, rough/smooth, etc. Here are my picks: 1. Nothing but the Truth by Cameron Francis: Great opener. You will have to re-buy when it wears out, but you can perform this routine with worn out cards. 2. Your Card Is by Grant Maidment: You can purchase a few commonly available decks and you have a lifetime supply of refills. I created a totally different routine with these cards. 3. Counterfeit by Daniel Meadows: Once you learn the principle, you could make your own refills and write in your own favorite movie titles. I think hand written cards are stronger. 4. 3 Card Routine by Steve Valentine: One of the best closers, and it ends clean. If you skip the little part of them feeling the cards, you can make your own refills. KJ |

Not sure if it counts as these are packet tricks, they come from a regular deck.
"Reset" by Paul Harris it has never gotten a bad response for me. "Too Many Cards" by Derek Dingle "Phych-out Poker" This is a great variaton of the classic "Jonah" card premise. The fact that you only need a regular deck to them is a big plus! |

These are three that pop into my head straight a way because I use them all the time.
They are packet effects but are made from a regular deck. This has the advantage of not needing to carry any extra stuff plus they are strong magic. Too Many Cards...D. Dingle Reset...P. Harris Limo Service...P. Harris Though all three are strong Reset has gotten me more "What the F---s" than the other two especially at the last change back. I am sure anyone who does it knows exactly what I am saying. |

1. Spin Doctors - Bannon
2. Duplicity - Bannon - (Here I am performing it at one of my restaurants- https://youtu.be/TwBbYp8poSo ) 3. Equilibrium - Whipple Also, I know I've mentioned this before in another thread around here, but if you want to carry some packet tricks with you while you're strolling, get one of those aluminum wallets! It's like a freaking rolodex of packet tricks and gaffs. The one I use is here: https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Wallet-C......m+wallet I've only ever had to buy one and it's lasted me easily 5-6 years so far. Just make sure you buy the extra large or it won't be wide enough to hold playing cards. It will still fit comfortably into your pocket. Honestly, for the longest time I've been thinking about buying up a bunch of these, decoupaging them with playing cards or old magic ads, and then selling them to magicians at a 300% mark-up |

After reading all this again I wonder how many "performing" magicians actually use all 3 they mentioned during a gig where the 3 require an extra set of cards. I'll bet very few... to none.
I doubt many magicians walk around with 3 extra packets of tricks for the 3 packet tricks they voted on. Seems more like armchair quarterback stuff to me.
