Who actually invented Card Warp?

Thats a tricky question and I'll let you decide the answer.
Card Warp as we know it today was invented by Roy Walton and released by Davenports of London. However, the original concept was created by Jeff Busby ("Into the 4th Dimension" - a torn and restored card routine) and used your fingers as cover instead of the other card. Adding the exterior card adds so much to the effect.

Another noted variation is 'star warp'. it used a dollar and a card.

I brought this very topic up on the Genii board and cause quite a stir between Kaufman and Darwin Ortiz over the credit for "The Card Warp Deck" published by Kaufman in Ortiz's "at the Card Table." After Ortiz posted a interesting response, Kaufman locked the topic for no more entries.
Andi is correct with Walton getting the credit for "Card Warp." Now if I only could find out who was the first to tear the cards in half to display them at the end of the routine, all credits would be complete.

Roy Walton created the Card Warp that people refer to and perform as Card Warp. That answers the question!
Jeff Busby created Into the 4th Dimension, which was released in manuscript format earler and had the card turning inside out as part of a much longer torn and restored sequence.
Never saw the controversy on the other forum about the Card Warp deck, but I first came across the idea of having a deck set with pairs of card warp cards for pulling out table hopping in Jim Klaydor's book "Watch This Closely" published in 1978.

Paul,
Check the Genii forum in the General section titled "Card Warp Credits", a very interesting exchange between Kaufman and Ortiz. Frankly I'm not sure who to believe but I know it predates 1978 by a few years (1973, I think was mentioned.)
BTW, are you excepting effects for your book on packet tricks or is it ready to be published?

Very interesting interchange. Gene Maze backed what Darwin had to say and Richard's response was that Gene was lying because he didn't like confrontation. Then he closed the topic.
The thread mutated from crediting card warp to Richard's accusation that Darwin stole the card warp deck idea from Gene Maze.
